Clearly the Giant, Red Dragon and Demon Prince will have outsize power in this game. And Druid.
Well, as I understand it, it's not a game; it is a beta test. As implicitly indicated earlier, balancing issues will come after the interface and mechanics are worked out. But if it is any consolation, the GI player is in the hands of someone who does not yet have one full game behind him. I think you will be pretty safe, at least from that quarter. Not that the King of the Giants won't try to crush all you puny pathetic excuses for what can only loosely be called "intelligent life" (not including you, of course, Mr. RD sir).

Yes all 2nd cycle kingdom-types have their full kingdom abilities in this game. For the 1st cycle kingdoms, only the Halfling has his special trade exchange rate. The Swampmen can't summon monsters in swamp areas yet with order 565 and the Paladin can't use 119 (thermopylae stand) and the Nomad can't use their special order 124 in the desert (avoid battle).

Barbarian had some nice special abilities as well. Get him now while archers still work Smile

Westmen are still pretty strong. Halfling at least he is happy. WI sharing a region with a big smelly thug. Yuck. Did BA start with two towns like before will be interesting.
HA is thrilled, though the position is as rough to begin as I recall. Smile
I would caution, not to consider this a competitive game. This is an avenue to explore how to accelerate game changes and automation in Alamaze. In my opinion, this should not be contemplated as a game that will go to conclusion, hence no charge, no game slot occupied. This is a test game, to see what orders are working, and which may not be, in this new environment.

Send your findings of anything astray to support. Otherwise, yes, enjoy, but again, this will not affect your standing. We appreciate your involvement in bringing Alamaze further along.
What about observations, there are things in my set up that seem kind of undwarven (i am playing Dwarf)s. I fully expect to be wiped out by the RD but want to test the game to help make a better experience for all. For example my Dwarves seem to have a fear of mountains.

With whatever you find, post in this thread or send an email about it. I'm expecting to find problems since the software is only lightly tested. Fall of Rome had 5 people for 8 months, I'm only one person that worked the weekends so I'm fully expecting to find issues as the game goes along. That's why this is an early Alpha test.

BTW, the DW setup for this game has Dwarves getting a 30% bonus in the mountains.

Again, this is more about seeing how the orders work. Changing values of units is the easiest thing to do.

Do your groups move as expected? Do your emissaries complete their orders? Are you getting recon as expected?
Yes, but due to randomness of pop centers, none of my population centers started in the mountains. Don't change it for this game, but if a military powerhouse like the RD is going to start in the DW region, I would hope my king would put his base where his kingdoms strength would be. I do like the randomness of starting pop centers, but it just seemed a little odd the dwarfs likes swamps more then mountains for living quarters.
There are lots and lots of apricots in Alamaze.

Again, the static things like unit values and locations are not a primary concern. Its more about if the orders execute and turn results are resolved.
