Nice job to all who made this a very exciting game. Biting my nails right up until I opened the turn as I was not sure I could hold the lead with the FF and AL and RD all up in my business.

And after all of the nice things I did for the AL, he comes at me hard at the end. I saved him from elimination by the Red Dragon, then left him alone so he could retake Mythgar, but is he appreciative? No, he takes the first opportunity to attack me in Untamed which I took from the RD.

Also, because he was in 2nd in status points on turn 30, I irritated the FF by doing a weak invasion into his region, and spent the rest of the game defending my regions from him. Oh well, held on by a hair.

And I did set a new record in Valhalla for most prisoners:

This began this game in Nyvaria with the DE in Diamond Coast. I decided I would move on him ASAP. I was fortunate that the DE and DU (in Darkover) had gotten in a dispute, so he was split between two regions when I moved onto the DE on turn 8. I took his city turn 9 and believe he dropped on turn 11. In hindsight, he could have fought me pretty well - I never found his hidden town, and two of the three known towns in the region were in the sea, where he had a substantial fleet.

Next up was the DU. An interesting perk of the DK is that one can move into a region and not really care if it is hostile, as your troops don't lose morale due to regional reaction. My attack was methodical rather than quick. I would always dispel a dome on towns and would often sit a turn on a town to raise wizards, but also block DU emissary movement. Another nice perk of the DK is dispelling dome at level 3, so I had all the necessary dispels. The DU did protect some towns for a while by doubling or tripling up on domes, but at the end of the day, I had more p-3s than he had p-6s.

I wanted to locate his hidden capital, so I began divining DU groups in the region even before I attacked. I had some notion of where it might be, but the possible area (Darkover is a big region) was too large to search. Then, the DU told me where it was - in an indirect manner. He moved numerous princes to my pop centers in Nyvaria and the Diamond Coast. I noticed he went only so far south and only so far east. As they were all princes (he had a bunch), I assumed they came from his capital. This allowed me to frame his capital to six possible squares, one of which I had already visited. Of course, his capital was in the last one I looked at, but once located, I dropped two strong groups there, and in short order, he was out.

Looking south, the GI and SO seemed to be the two big players. The GI had four regions at one point but appeared to be losing ground. Looking at Stormgate, I was surprised that it had not been developed to any extent. Pellinor looked like a good target, as most of the PCs were on land. I took a turn to set up and moved on both. As luck would have it, I put a group on the GI capital just after it was forced to move. I felt sorry for the GI as I took his capital, Stormgate, and much of Pellinor all in the same turn.

However, that didn't give me the win, as Stormgate had been recruited to the point where controlling it didn't provide control of the city. Back up to MQ I went to grab the village and the win.

An interesting tidbit is that I did no artifact searching this game, finding only two by chance. This allowed me to use more orders towards conquest. I still ended with 17 artifacts, from conquest, theft or of my own creation.

Looking back, the DK felt fairly overpowered in many ways. The kingdom has a powerful military, good companions, a unique summon in the Pit Fiend, tier 2 wizards, the evil advantage, and good agents. Being death-immune is huge - I felt no fear from DU wizards as he couldn't use slay or summon death vs me. I must admit I had the advantage of always pressing the attack and was never the target of an attack.]]>

I had trouble getting together a group to take a legendary castle (I did siege one), which made it tough as the HA had a legendary with a lot of census locked up in it. Perhaps between wizards and artifacts, I could have, but I didn't feel confident taking a 150k group up vs a 220k city.

I have to give credit to the RD and LY. They were tenacious and stayed in the fight to the end. I got the LY down to a handful of PCs, even captured his king, and came back and took the Untamed region from me later in the game. As for the RD, I spanked his groups and killed his leaders over and over, even pulled off a surprise invisible attack on one of his groups (but he did put a whooping on one of my groups on turn 40) and yet he kept coming back with more troops, keeping me from steamrolling to five regions.

In the end, I controlled only a single region with substantial in three others and significant in the fifth. My emissary core took a beating, with only two princes and a duke remaining. I lost six emissaries to agents and military capture through the game. My status points came mainly from prisoners, many of which were LY (it seemed he had a prince factory), artifacts (somehow amassed 28), and my military, which consisted of six warlords, eleven elite brigades, and five wizards of p-6 or greater.]]>

As the FO I had an eventful game.

I came under attack from the DE very early on and then the RD the turn after. A big loss came shortly after when I got my military caught in the plains by the RD (I really didn't think he would intercept - he did), resulting in a total loss of troops. The UN later ambushed the RD and the DW moved on the DE, allowing me some breathing room. I hid in my hidden capital and developed agents and wizards, resulting in numerous kidnappings and a few artifact thefts (I kept trying for the gem, but the UN kept teleporting out of range, bah). I had just begun my comeback, taking Diamond Coast and Nyvaria on turn 29 when the SO won it.]]>

As a side note, there has been some discussion on which nations cannot crack a legendary. I think the Forgotten may fall into that category.

In this game I tried for a Legendary that was 185k. Not huge by some standards. And granted, it was a capitol and I had a battle earlier that turn. But my group was about as maxed as it could be and if it can't take a 185k under those conditions then it certainly can't take some of the more developed legendaries out there.

Consider my group. The 1FO had 4 Kingdom brigades, 1 Beholder, 5 Minotaurs, 10 swampmen. 5 chameleons, 5 Rock Golems. All Regular. I also had about a 125 morale, A warlord and 2 Lord Commanders, a P9 (with the ring) and two P7s, 65 Pts in artifacts and was double forged.

That's about the max The FO gets without recruiting from PCs. I know this is something being looked at so I figured I would throw this out there.

Chronis woke and contemplated her strength. Hard scales, flaming breath, speed faster than eagles.

But her numbers were few. The humans could breed more brigades in the coming months faster than the Red Dragons could ever muster new troops- delay would not serve.

Yet Chronis noted another strength- vast quantities of gold- a mattress for her years of slumber, but now a tool that the foolish humans would covet, until too late. To war.

My lands in Zanthia were not fertile, though a volcano and mountains would allow recruitment of Wyverns and the healing Phoenx- essential to the battles to come. I knew I would need a target to supply food before winter and immediately sent patrols to Mythgar and the Untamed Lands to find the capitals of the Sorceror and Warlock kingdoms. Both wizards could become strong in the years to come, but for now were weak, and their lands unhidden to my flights.

I hoped the Lycans to my West and Dwarves to my east would avoid my wrath, and the Demon Princes to my south in Pellinor similarly were weak as wizards to start this campaign.

So I put that gold to use- buying a seat on the High Council, then quickly ordering it to raise my influence. No member of the council would vote against me and fear my wrath. Using that influence, my barons became dukes, and my dukes became princes.

The Demons moved quickly on Stormgate, yet I moved just as quickly against the Sorceror- my army felt pain, but pleasure as well when the Sorceror kingdom yielded its ore rich capital. Several of my wizards died to his spells, but wizards were never the Red Dragons’ strength nor path to victory.

The lands in Zamora now became vacant, and though the Dark Elves and Dwarves had claimed some lands there, they did not contest me taking a share, and now a window toward victory opened. I held my armies back- no reason to claim that land before its time.

Zamora could be taken with a single town, Mythgar and Zanthia were already mine. The Immortal Demons would notice any attempt I made to improve my chances in Untamed Lands or his homeland in Pellinor. While my armies were indomintable, my victory chances depended on surprise, so those regions were ruled out- either the Dwarf in Krynn or the Dark Elf in Sword Coast would die.

All that gold and High Council votes, turn after turn increasing my influence, then raising my emissaries to counts, dukes and princes. Then the horrible Elf far to my north, even beyond the reach of my wings, started rejecting my votes. Too late pointy pointy.

At the eve of battle, word came of the Lycans at war with the Dwarves, and other war- all to destract from my master stroke-
