Alamaze 3[sup]rd[/sup] Cycle “The Choosing”  Begins

Since the Resurgence of Alamaze in April, 2013, we have begun 160 games for our players in our varied formats; starting more than one new game per week.  These have been in eight different formats featuring different numbers of players, active kingdoms, diplomatic style, and victory type.  We also introduced our Chivalry concept that provides an edge to new players.  These have all been in what we collectively call The Second Cycle of Alamaze, which began two decades ago and won the Origins and Gen Con Game of the Year, received top recognition from Dragon Magazine, Flagship, Paper Mayhem and White Wolf.  Many of our players have been active for those two decades and enjoying Alamaze throughout.  This week alone, we began six Alamaze games.  That is quite unusual and a record, but I think all this demonstrated the vibrancy of our community.  All these games have been in Alamaze 2[sup]nd[/sup] Cycle.

For the last year, we’ve been designing and programming work on the next big development:

Alamaze Third Cycle: The Choosing
The name of the first scenario in Alamaze 3[sup]rd[/sup] Cycle, The Choosing, derives from the delicious uncertainty of which kingdoms may be in any one game and how that radically changes the dynamics in any given game.  In 2[sup]nd[/sup] Cycle Full Steel (15 players), there was one set of kingdoms in play, similar to most PBEM.  In 3[sup]rd[/sup] Cycle, there are 24 kingdoms available of which 12 will be active in any one game.  Our math guys tell me that means 4096 possible combinations, instead of 1.  The strategic implications are endless, given how divergent individual kingdoms are in Alamaze.
But how does Alamaze 3[sup]rd[/sup] Cycle change the game itself?  In pretty much every way.  There are many new provisions to political, military (24 new Companion brigade types and several new tactical doctrines), magical (23 new spells and 20 new artifacts to bring the total in each category to over 100), covert, customization options, strategic avenues.
We’ve started our beta games, testing both the unique design, as well as our brand new web-based order entry and verification system that virtually eliminates player errors in submitting orders online, and makes the game more easily accessible to players new to Alamaze.  Players don’t need to know order numbers or proper syntax to issue an order, the new code does that for them.  They just need to know what they want their characters, armies, or population centers to do as they consider their strategic options and the global political situation.  Point and click.  We have begun the first of two beta games.
Why not see for yourself why Alamaze has been enjoyed by thousands of players worldwide for three decades, honored by the press and associations, respected by peers and inspirational to them, and now is on the verge of a whole new dimension of PBEM strategic adventure gaming of never before seen possibilities?
