  How to best get Elite troops? It was close to 1 : 1 before wizards

I was testing what it takes to improve troops towards elite, I did the tutorial and attacked a city listed below but it stated the battle was too short.  What am I missing?

<pre>        Paid informants revealed that Boldagor showed the defenses of a developing city. Strong</pre>
<pre>    walls, stone towers, a dozen or more ballistas on the ramparts. When the sun had risen to</pre>
<pre>    its highest point, Grand Marshal Ari Strongbow commanded his 1st Elven army to advance</pre>
<pre>    upon the city. The 1st Elven group proudly led the Elvens. As the attackers advanced</pre>
<pre>    through the high plains, the first missiles sang out. </pre>

<pre>                                  <a style="color: maroon">- Long Range Missilers -</a> </pre>
<br>
<pre>    In the initial minutes of battle, defending missilers were able to disrupt the first ranks</pre>
<pre>    of the invaders. The Elven lines imposed substantial casualties upon the city's defenders.</pre>

<pre>                                        <a style="color: maroon">- Magic -</a> </pre>
<br>
<pre>    Elven wizards dismounted scarcely beyond the range of defending bowmen and began an</pre>
<pre>    incomprehensible incantation. With a mere glare from his fiery eyes Mithrandir's presence</pre>
<pre>    arcane impacted the course of the battle. Arcs of searing fire shot forth from the wizard.</pre>
<pre>    Power-4 wizard Mithrandir incanted in a low forceful tone. A swirling wind began, which</pre>
<pre>    quickly escalated into a full scale tornado that swooped down upon the main ranks of the</pre>
<pre>    enemy! Lor Goldenwood likewise had his presence be seen in similar manner. Power-3 wizard</pre>
<pre>    Lor Goldenwood glowered intently and issued indecipherable utterances. A massive ball of</pre>
<pre>    fire sped toward the main ranks of the enemy and exploded! The Elven Kiri Blackmind</pre>
<pre>    (Power-1) was not a factor in the battle. The Elven mages imposed devastating damage upon</pre>
<pre>    the protectors. </pre>

<pre>    Within a few hours, the city defenses were obliterated and an unconditional surrender was</pre>
<pre>    offered. The Elven banner now waves nobly in Boldagor! Elven casualties were put at</pre>
<pre>    12.85%. All Elven leaders survived the battle. Ari Strongbow again shown great valor and</pre>
<pre>    has earned a promotion to Lord Commander. Glidefoot once again shown great valor and has</pre>
<pre>    earned a promotion to General. Surpassing expectations was Thuridil, who once again has</pre>
<pre>    won further glory. He is now a Captain Major. All the Elven wizards survived the fray. The</pre>
<pre>    troops are eager for more victories: morale is up! </pre>

<pre>    1st Elven              From the battle with the city of Boldagor (Area CI), we are unable to</pre>
<pre>                            improve our brigade's experience due to the battle not lasting long enough.</pre>

Hello all,
I'm looking at the game queue of the sign up page and see Game 976 Options listed as both Exploratory and Pagan.  I read that the first means no divining for 4 turns and the second means no divination the whole game.  What will the game be once it eventually fills up?  Also, do Temples not show up in the list of buildings available in Pagan games?  Some of us noobs may actually build one even if we couldn't actually use it.

I was wondering something. Does it matter that you have a P5 and a P4 wizard in an unusual sighting? Or would 3 P3 wizards be the same? Is it just the amount of levels in a given encounter or what? And if it was just a total number of levels, would that impact the durability of the lesser wizards when the piper comes? Like if the episode was a success, would that dictate that the P5 and P4 wizards would have a better chance of surviving than each of the 3 P3 wizards, even if all were using the mirror image spell?
