Post if this format is of interest to you.
Conceptually, I have no problem with this format but I would not want to be "forced" to ONLY be able to play the region(s) that I previously won in. Once the 12 players are identified there should be a draft, either random or based on Status Points (this would be my preference, as there should be "some" reward for racking up the most status points).

IT:
It is not about forcing. It is about playing the kingdom you played best against other players playing their best kingdoms. This is basically how it was done for the last couple of years (some differences due to the Choosing format). If we are doing a draft based on Status points, we are right back to having a championship of those who play the most rather than those who have won or placed on the podium. You, incidentally, have first choice of 4 kingdoms.
If we do try to just get the "best" players (a truly nebulous concept), we would need to do win percentage or status points per game to get the 10 or 12 most successful players, then draft in order. But that gives first choice to the "best" player, potentially unbalancing that game.
No perfect answer. I like the format the way it has been done for the past couple of years. And not just saying that as the 2015 Champion .
Whether we choose this format or not, thanks Canticar for putting this together.

Atuan, I apologize. I have been going over a lot of Valhalla data tonight. You would actually be 2nd in line behind JF and the top placement for the Amazons. I will correct the post and submit a new spreadsheet.
Others, please let me know if you find additional errors.
I am proposing an alternate format and selection process for consideration.
I put together a list of Kingdom champions based on Valhalla standing. This has been the selection process for the last several Champions games.
There are many variables so this is the criteria I used (the criteria can change if agreed upon)
1. Game formats included in the selection process are Steel, and Slugfest. I chose these formats as they are individual games with at least 10 players. Other formats have fewer players so the chance of making the podium is better.
2. JF has suggested we include team games. They are not included in this post as team games are won by the entire team declaring victory and Valhalla grants the win to the player on the wining team with the most status points. Playing a team game is very different from playing an individual game. If the majority would prefer to include team status in the selection criteria I will make the adjustment.
3. The selection criteria is 1st place, Podium finish, and Status points. With Status Points being the tie breaker.
As this is the first Champions game in the Choosing format the kingdom selection process must be different than in previous years. I envision that the player that had the best results in a region, as demonstrated by the selection criteria, owns that region and can choose to play either kingdom.
Should a player in the selection process either decide not to participate or has chosen to play a kingdom in a different region they will be removed from all additional region lists. It is as if they were never in the list. The players in kingdom positions following the removed player move up in the standings and a new comparison is made with the best remaining player from the other regional kingdom. As an example, if Du1 has control of region 1 and they decide not to play, then DU2 becomes DU1 and is compared against EL1 to determine who controls the region.
In years past a silent format was used for the championship game. You must win using your own talents not the talents of your friends and neighbors. I propose the same format for this year.
Based on the criteria defined above, this is the champions list for this year. I have attached a spreadsheet that provides better detail and formatting.
1. VBall, Lojjin, Netstrider
2. Lord Diamond, Atuan, The Wise One
3. Drogo, Vball, JF
4. Atuan, Jf, Tomag
5. Canticar, Dupont Rogal
6. Imperial Tark, Atuan, Lord Diamond
7. Rytek, Son of Conan, Damelon
8. Atuan, Lord Diamond, Netstrider
9. Canticar, Acererak, Atuan
10. Imperial Tark, Canticar, Damelon
Dist 1. Atuan, JF, Son of Conan
Dist 2. Frost Lord, JF, Imperial Tark
Post if this format is of interest to you.
I have corrected an error that was found in the region 4 listing and posted a new file here.
1. The selection process proposed by Rick. Top 10 achievers in Status Points draft kingdoms.
2. A system similar to the process used in the past, top achievers in each kingdom play their Kingdoms, or the kingdom in the same region.
3. The top players per kingdom, as in 2 above, participate in a draft.
Currently we have 2 votes for number 2 (Canticar and Vball) and 2 votes for number 3 (Atuan and Imperial Tark)
