Ready Enabled Games
#1
In case you missed it, we now have the capability to offer ready button enabled games for immediate turn processing! I've updated my initial post about it here: http://kingdomsofarcania.net/forum/showt...6#pid43586

This effort kept me busy during the past 4 months to first upgrade our server from XML to SQL-based gaming then incorporating a Ready button functionality and enhancing our order entry website. So this was a major project considering all of the software changes that were done so I hope you like it Smile

Now that we have the capability for ready enabled games, I can continue working on developing a Solo/Tutorial game for beginners who can press the Ready button after filling out their orders and have the turn immediately processed (no waiting).

I'd like January to be Duel Ready only to make sure we have it the way we want it.  Then we can roll it out to other formats.

In January, all active players can play one Duel game free, no setup, no service slot.  You can play as many Duels as you like, the first one free.

Received a couple emails at support about weird happenings with the order entry website. Everyone needs to pick up the latest version or you may encounter strange behavior. As always with updates to the website, you will need to:

1) Log out by completely closing the browser (red 'x' upper right corner). You will need to close all instances of the browser too so if you have others looking at different websites, please shut them down as well. If you don't then the open browser(s) may hold on to the old cache and it won't clear for you.

2) Log back in and press the browser refresh button on the order entry's Home page.

3) If you encounter weird behavior on another menu tab, press the browser refresh button on that page as well. Each menu page may be cached separately by your browser so you may need to refresh every menu page.

I'm not planning on changing the website anymore after today (Sun Jan 1st 6 pm EST was last update) so your refresh should be good for the new ready games this month...

About the two ready enabled games (537, 539), I've noticed that these two games are not progressing along as much as I had hoped. Keep in mind that by volunteering to convert the game to be ready enabled, there is an expectation that the players will submit their orders ahead of schedule by some degree. Otherwise there would be no point of converting the games to be ready enabled in the first place. By volunteering, it is implied that everyone who's participating has agreed to submit earlier than normal in order to test the new environment.

In particular, the above applies for game 537 (championship game). I can understand why game 539 (full diplomacy) would take longer but not the silent championship game which consists of veteran players with no communication. I wanted to test a fast vs. slow game with a mixture of veteran/new players which is why I selected games 537 and 539 due to their differences. However, that comparison and the evaluation of the new environment won't work if both games are waiting until the last moment to hit the ready button. So let's try to do better in that regard please otherwise the test will be a bust...

I was one of the few who slowed down this process.  I did my turn before the new button was implemented so I did not think to resend in my turn until you made this post.  I figured my turn was already in, turn was resent with the ready button.

Thanks. All I ask is to try to do better in getting your turns in earlier.

I wanted to test all three scenarios: Fast (free Duel) where turns are within hours, Medium (veteran silent) where turns are 1-2 days out of the 3.5 limit, and Slow (newbie diplo) where turns are 2-3 days out of 3.5 max duration.

I was just looking at the due date for the champion game at the READY button and for me it says 1:00 EST on Thursday. Don't the turns always run at noon EST and 11:00 CST?

I intentionally moved it past the hour (for both games) so they wouldn't interfere with the standard noon EST processing. But that's just for the initial turn of when I manually converted the games over. After the first turn, they'll have a rolling due date for both games so you'll need to reference the Ready Menu page on the order entry website.

Makes sense. Thanks.
