I recently noticed that the Elves in region 1 do not get Westmen as companions, while several regions in the center do. Does that make any sense? It seems to me they should have both Northmen and Westmen available

Ive been wondering if anyone was going to bring up this subject. Only Runnimede, Amberland and Synisvania have 2 companions to recruit.
The good news for the elves is that they can get a town just across the border in Torvale or Amberland for those westmen. Since i have been finding it difficult to get veteran troops, and i have not seen elites yet, the recruitable companions has a huge bearing on my kingdom choice because i know they are about all im going to get. The northmen and westmen also require a general and the others a captain and im not sure why that is.
For those nations who are weaker in the archery phase, Huns and Zamorans are a good addition. Huns add the flank attack when it is the most numerous brigade in your group. 3+ Zamoran regulars add +10% valor bonus which is very helpful for large groups.
Northmen with 2+ regular brigades add +10% defense and charge in battles in regions 1-5 in winter. A little too specific imo. Eliminate the north regions and winter and sounds good.
Westmen with 3+ regulars add 10% shield bonus for archery phase which is helpful. Like a pow 1 wizard shield spell.
