This was the first Ice Age of Maelstorm. Also full diplomacy but limited to one Ally.
Congrats to everyone that played this game. If Diplomacy game were played in the past how this was I think we may have not seen Anon and Silent games become popular. I did not see anyone take more than one ally to work closely with. Deals were made with others but nothing that violated the spirit of the one ally rule. Perhaps the best example was when the RD was making his big push for the win. The Necromancer made a call to arms but there was no coordinated effort to stop him. Sure lots of kingdoms joined in but they were all over each other. Not listed on the final points totals but Drogo’s Dark elf also put up one hell of a fight vs multiple enemies for what seemed like half the game.

Well Damn what a game. Congrats to Draugr.
This game was a blast for me. I wanted to play the Black Dragon but someone beat me to it. I ended up Choosing the Red Dragon instead. I thought the movement and being able to attack on water made them advantageous. Add to that the 10% healing and I envisioned a smaller army getting really strong and fighting a ton. Many advised me that they would be very tough due to the amount of food needed. So the game started with me in Zanthia.
In the early turns I was getting control of my region fairly quickly. Right after I got control, the SA showed up at a village of mine. I thought it was by accident but Qi was wrong. I quickly eliminated that division and realized how powerful flanking was in the plains. I continued into Krynn and quickly controlled two regions with the SA being eliminated. This was beneficial because I needed the extra food production.
I used a turn or two to scout out the Dark Elf and thought I saw a possible path to victory. I made my move on turn 15. I took the minor city, two towns, and three villages. I had ran the numbers and I knew it would be close but that should give me control of Pellinor. After taking them my Army appeared at Stormgate to take it and win the game on turn 17.
That is when disaster struck. The Necromancer put out the call to arms and I failed to take control of Pellinor with those 3 villages, 2 towns, and the minor City. I know I only missed control by an incredibly slim margin.
That was the beginning of the end. I took Stormgate but could t declare victory. I moved back into Pellinor and the Dark Elf pushes back. 4 kingdoms went after Krynn and Zanthia (sorcerer, Demon Princes, Necromancer, and Illusionist.). I was fighting the Dark Elf and he was teaching me a lot. I was winning the battles, but I was forgetting that I could be so much more flexible having five groups to work with. By the time I realized how to be more effective, the Under World started sleeping and kidnapping my king and emmis.
By now I was short on food and good due to losing my two regions. I had 13 orders due to a baron being regent. I started after the UN while still trying to battle the Dark Elves. The Illusionist was pressing me in Pellinor as I finished off the Dark Elves so I went 100% after the UN since he could put me out of the game by kidnapping my last regent and leaving my kingdom without a leader. I captured the UN agents level 21 and 16. I also took over half his PC’s while searching for his capital. That is when the DP won the game.
Some random notes, I was allied with the Druid who helped me with food 4 or 5 times during the game. Outside of that I was able to feed my troops on my own using my wizards and early regions. I never recruited any troops. I only used what I started with and the reinforcements as I. Like barely feed them. The UN was amazing in focusing on his strength. He took almost all of my prisoners I had aquifer which were many as well as half of my emmis as prisoners. This game was a blast. I fought against seven different kingdoms with six of them being at once. The Red Dragon is not well suited for ice age but with some good fortune, I came incredibly close to having my first win. Thank you all for a great contest. I am thrilled to have survived till the end.
