Yeah you and me both my friend. In many things not just Alamaze... I suspect I have what's called a "low need to achieve" which means failure doesn't effect me much, and a win against normal circumstances doesn't do much for me either. I need to win against big odds for it to be satisfying.
A friend of mine, I noticed, is quite the opposite. High need to achieve... seems like he will only play something he has a good chance of winning, and wont play otherwise... he would never play a game of chess with me.

I find that interesting. I had never heard that postulation (I didn't want to say argument) Sort of a turtle thing. The ecologists say if it weren't for somehow there are humans, that turtles would be the dominant species. One daughter went to Maryland: "Turtle, turtle, turtle."

There is another "need" we learned in psych 101. Need for affiliation. For me, that is low as well. I'm perfectly content living alone with one or two friends I can call, I dislike crowds. I suspect something, whether natural or not, has dampened my reward system. Similarly, I have experimented with various addictive phenomenon and have never had any inclination to continue use. My friend, with the high need to achieve, also becomes addicted easily, nicotine, video games, pot. I've never read anything about this, its not my field, but if my interest lasted more than a few minutes, I'd definitely look it up.
