In a couple games, I have had the good fortune to possess a crystal of seeing. It says that it acts like a L1 agent, and it can scry 3 squares. However, after its use, it displays the no artifact thingy in addition to the normal scry. Is this true, that the crystal can detect artifacts as well?

Yep. You can also use a level 1 agent with order 970 recon to find encounters on the map. You only need a level 4+ agent if you want the four area scan with a single agent. Encounters aren't hidden on the map...

4+ to find invisible towns as well.
One of my personal faves. Along with Stone of All Minds and Gem of Planes.

Best artifact in the game. Everything else has some limitations.
