You mean don't be like Brekk, as in the example of him sharing that link, below, to help others to see current games forming?

It was posted in your thread, Mike, the one that you created called Sign in to Play New Games and Order Entry for Current Games.

For some reason, this is going off the rails.

The forum post labelled, "Sign in to Play New Games and Order Entry for Current Games", wasn't my title. It must have been changed in the transfer to the new forum or something. That's why the Help Guides link to it was broken. It's now pointing to the new forum post.

Thanks again for finding it, along with UncleMike's Corner for release notes.

It's not going off the rails. The site is progressing. See what you think of the front page, now.

I created some new links for the Alamaze Rulebook and the Wizard Spellbook. They're located below the Easy Process links, and below that red navigation bar. I think that they look pretty good, and visually stand out right there, being red links on a white background. It's just a question of what gets linked there.

The thing about the links that get posted and shared, that invariably tends to happen. The underlying point is that even the new owner has done it, and recently, at that. That sort of thing happens, and it may well continue to happen in the future by somebody. Everyone is not going to remember what is being written in this thread, or in previous threads. I can try to track all of the old links down in the forum that are at the root of the problem. It will just take some time.

It only creates the problems that it does, because of the underlying security issue. That needs to be fixed. I reworded the Easy Process verbiage. I provided new instructions and greater clarity with one additional sentence. I increased the size of the Step #1, Step #2, and Step #3 line of text, so that it would visually stand out better from that line of clarification text right beneath it. All things considered, I think that it's succinct and to the point, as much as it can be, considering that the Game Queuelink appears on a page that people can't access without signing in, first.

Some of the documentation is dated. It isn't all current and up to snuff.

The Rule Book and Order Entry links at the very top of the forum should probably be removed. That whole line should probably all be forum-related links, not game-related links. Put the game-related links in red beneath that red navigation bar. That will yield a net increase in uniformity and consistency. Plus, it means the game-related links (Alamaze Rulebook, Wizard Spellbook, etc.) all sit more center of the screen.

The How To Join A Game document still has stuff like this in it:

7. Any game after your free and unlimited Tutorial/Duel games will
require you to have an appropriate Subscription Plan:
https://www.alamaze.co/service-levels/

. . . and this . . .

6. After getting some experience, you may want to consider joining a full
game. Primeval has 5 players and is recommended as your next step.

Using myself as an example, I didn't play any 5-Man Primeval game. Who has recommended that, lately? A new player doesn't need to go through that. What they need is familiarity with the interface, not with smaller bites of the same pie. Rick McDowell was far better at game design than he was at crafting documentation.

After a search of the forum, aside from the problematic link appearing in this discussion thread, it also appears in several others.

Other individuals who have shared it over time going back several years include:

Whisper - 04-20-2018
Senior Tactician - 09-19-2020
Rellgar - 07-19-2022
uncledarkseid - 07-19-2022  (by way of quoting it)

Even one from Rick McDowell, but I forgot to grab the date that accompanied it.

So, it's clearly not been an isolated issue traceable to just one or two people, and it's been going on for quite some time. And on numerous occasions when it's been posted in the forum, here, it wasn't caught/noticed and removed, in order to avoid problems.

I am now gonna go and delete them  (except in this thread, for now).

OK let me step in here.

First THANK YOU to everyone, Maximus, Wookie, Mike, Senior Tactician, Strylin, and many others helping me make Alamaze easier to play for new players!

I am learning a lot about how things work in the background of Alamaze and we have a few small things that are bumps in the road, such as the "Nobody" issue. I caused and perpetuated the issue in my excitement. I simply did not understand the implications to the system, by making a link. I 100% own this and was excited with Maximus pointing people to the game and while it is 100% documented by Mike to "Dont do This!" much like in real life, I never read all the directions, again this is on me and I apologize the community for the issues it has caused.
All that said let's avoid going back and forth on the forums, it's very easy to come off wrong and everybody is only trying to help me, for which I am EXTREMELY grateful.
I will continue to make mistakes but I do promise I will also fix them.
Thanks, guys for all your help!

John

I think that I have succeeded in deleting all instances of that problematic link that causes the Nobody problem signing up for game on the Game Creator page.

Whew! I'm tired.

I also did a search for the problematic link over on the Play By Mail Facebook page. If I counted correctly, that search turned up eight different instances of that link be shared over there by me, going back from recently until four or more years ago.

I think that I got all of them that was on that Facebook page.

Did I just steal somebody's spot? I saw a game with one open slot in the queue and I jumped in as the BL. Sorry if I've just buggered things up, I've been quite busy in real life.

Maybe, but I wouldn't worry about it. Shit happens!
