It wasn't so very long ago, when I was browsing the old Alamaze forum, that the number of Alamaze players had dried up to a trickle. I went to the Member List option, today, and extracted every known Alamaze player to visit the forum, here, since the beginning of the month of August 2023, removing anyone who hadn't posted in the forum, as well as any newcomers that are legitimately interested in the game (as far as I can tell), as well as any of the newest forum accounts which my gut feeling tells me are potential spam accounts that haven't spammed the forum, yet. What I ended up with was a list of 27 known Alamaze players (or former Alamaze players showing interest in Alamaze, anew).
While 27 people is not a huge number, this is actually a marked improvement from what the old (and broken) Alamaze forum had, at one point was able to achieve. Known Alamaze players are returning to the Alamaze forum, and not just within the last 21 days (since the month of August first started). Players are visiting the forum more frequently than before. Forum postings have picked up.
At one point on the old Alamaze forum, and for a while after that particular problem started, forum users couldn't even stay logged in to the forum, such was the broken state of affairs at that time. Compare that low point for the old Alamaze forum to the new Alamaze forum, now. Things may seem humble, now, as far as progress goes, but some things have actually enjoyed significant progress, since that low point, previously. The new owner and his technical assistants (for lack of a better term off the top of my head) bring more tech-savvy to Alamaze. Brekk has solved a littany of technical problems that had come about and piled up, due to the old Alamaze forum being way out of date (as far as being behind multiple forum software updates). An increase in tech savviness can only bolster Alamaze's chances for success, going forward.
Not everyone who loved Alamaze left it for the same reason. Some, unfortunately, have passed away down through the years. Others have gone on to pursue other interests. To be certain, there are others reasons, as well. Personality conflicts have played a role over the years in diminishing the Alamaze roll of players. But personality conflicts impact virtually every game. Sometimes, human beings do not always get along with one another, and that's not a problem that technology has yet been able to provide a remedy for. Personality conflicts require a certain degree of a combination of self-discipline and tolerance to overcome. No one else has to agree, of course, but that's how I see things from my perspective.
I think, though, that with a concerted effort on our part, both collectively and individually, we can make real progress on growing the Alamaze player community, as we push forward toward a new tomorrow for Alamaze. To be certain, there will be moments when failures rear their ugly heads, but by persevering and maintaining a sense of focus and awareness, I think that our collective success will be greater than our individual or collective failures.
Maybe Alamaze could benefit from utilizing the services of a few bountyhunters to grow the size of the overall player community for the game. That, however, would first require bounties. Would it work? Honestly, I don't know, but it could be one marketing technique of many in Alamaze's arsenal of tricks aimed at growing the game's player base.
What about you? Do you have any ideas, be they resh or be they stale, that you think might help contribite towards the overall objective of growing Alamaze's player base?
Sure, such things have been discussed, before. Well, let's discuss them, again.
