Two sea battles, two very different results:
Sea battle on Waves Of Azure over rough seas: 2 fleets of Ranger barges vs. 8 fleets of Free Traders splendid triremes. To the battle, the Free Traders naval fleet brought forth Greek Fire. During the first hour of battle, long and medium range catapult fire inflicted devastating damage to the Ranger navy and negligible damage to the Free Traders splendid triremes. As the forces drew near, ballistas, fire arrows and grappling missiles caused negligible losses to the Ranger barges and negligible losses to the Free Traders ships. When the navies clashed at close range, ramming tactics and ship to ship melee resulted in additional negligible damage to the Ranger ships, and negligible damage to the Free Traders ships. By this time, losses to the Ranger ships were devastating compared to negligible losses to the Free Traders barges based on the overall number of ships in each navy. The battle continued to rage for some time until the Ranger fleet attempted to break off. Their slow sailing navy was unable to escape and was destroyed! Ranger losses were put at 2 fleets while Free Traders losses were estimated at 0 fleet.
Sea battle on The Sorrows over windy seas: 3 fleets of Druid barges vs. 74 fleets of Atlanteans galleys. To the battle, the Atlanteans naval fleet brought forth Greek Fire, Ramming Head, Reinforced Hulls, Admiral Maneuvers. During the first hour of battle, long and medium range catapult fire inflicted devastating damage to the Druid navy and negligible damage to the Atlanteans galleys. As the forces drew near, ballistas, fire arrows and grappling missiles caused negligible losses to the Druid barges and negligible losses to the Atlanteans ships. By this time, losses to the Druid ships were devastating compared to negligible losses to the Atlanteans barges based on the overall number of ships in each navy. The battle continued to rage for some time until the Druid fleet attempted to break off. Their slow sailing navy was able to do so with some difficulty. Druid losses were put at 2 fleets while Atlanteans losses were estimated at 0 fleet.
74 fleets (with enhancements) vs 3 fleets got the same result as 8 vs 2.
There must be some invisible cap to the number of fleets that count towards the sea battle.
