Unwritten Rules
#1
Greetings all,
I've heard that it's a common practice that experienced players don't attack noobs early in their first games.  (Thank you !!)  Are there any other common practices we novices need to know?  I'm particularly interested in what the norm is about our opening towns and villages in another territory and vice versa.   I don't wish to make enemies right away but also don't want to lose a town or village in one area without getting one in return.  I suppose that having a mithril mine in another player area would make giving it up much more difficult.  Any comments about this or other 'unwritten rules' would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance,
Mike

Typically, you can expect to lose your starting town and village outside of your "home" region. You can tax them for the benefit and to make it a bit easier to take, but this is hardly expected. I consider PCs outside the home region fully expendable. It is also expected that you take all the PCs in your region, neutral, human, or otherwise.

Note that mithril mines only interact with mithril miners - not troops or emissaries - even if the mine is located in the same location as a PC.

You can send your mithril miners where ever you want. Other kingdoms will have no notice of this or ability to interfere with them, nor in any way are mithril miners considered an offence or war act etc.

Some people defend their out region PCs and some don't. I don't think an unwritten rule that you have to give them up, but if you don't, it probably means war unless there is some communication allowed. For example, a kingdom might want to keep a sea PC for merchant trade in another region, but certainly would need to pay or trade pretty well for that.
