I know that we don't officially negotiate with terrorists, but what is generally considered a fair price to get a prince out of hock? Do many players do this or is it considered a loss if emissaries get captured? Inquiring minds want to know! Thanks

getting hostages back is not easy. The "terrorist" gets status points for them which is more valuable then gold. Most ransoms occur when a emmisary is captured by accident.

Often in the beginning when you're taking a region, you might give them back for one gold to encourage good neighbors. I have never ransomed a hostage later in the game. I either execute them or guard them for status points (and bribe for skeletons).
There is also a way to find hidden capitals if the "terrorist" has one of your emis as a prisoner using triangulation and ward spells. Not easy but doable in a few actions and turns. Another reason to execute prisoners if you have a hidden capital.

Thank you for the responses. The prince in question just showed up on my RIP list so no negotiation is necessary. In my extremely limited experience I've found that immediate elimination is quite common for captured emissaries. I know I'd have done it immediately to the demon princes I've captured if it were possible!
