DK Pit Fiends question

I have read that the Pit Fiend wall of flame effect works on both offence and defense. It also works against flying creatures. 

Does anyone know if the effect works against PCs?

If I remember, yes it works on all battle types, not really a wall of flame but more Emolate of fire, so I think it worked for me on every attack or defend scenario. Been a minute since I had some of them. Probably should change to impact mele portions of battle only?
