Is there a mention of game types out there? For example there was a steel and magic first age and steel and magic second age games for a total of 4 types of Alamaze games.
If so where are the rules for the variations and do the players decide what game to setup next?

Good point, Andy. Best shot right now is Steel -15 player individual game, for a fast game start.
