So as the winner of the game with The Sten, I am now taking on Wfrankenhoff. I asked him to pick first and this is how things turned out.
Wfrankenhoff
GI
RD
RA
DW
SO
WI
DuPont
AN
DE
GN
BL
WA
EL
The picking order, btw went GI-DE/BL-RD/RA-AN/GN-DW/SO-WA/EL-WI
There's no question that my team is more diplomacy heavy vs the military power of Wfrankenhoff's team. We'll see how things turn out!

Interesting opening move - Will's team hired no High Priestesses. I guess they were saving money for that big bid by the RD of 45k to get on the HC.

So this game has come to a very early end (turn 2!) with me as the declared winner. I post not to crow but to illustrate how fast the game can move in Titan. In regular Alamaze, if you make a mistake, it can hurt, but there are ways you can mitigate the damage with diplomacy or some luck if you are not directly being targeted. In Titan there is no place to hide.
What really put Will behind the 8 ball was a simple bit of confusion - he forgot that the code to hire a HP was 'E' and instead put 'D'. The end result was he hired 5 unneeded Governors, burning both 50000 gold and taking influence hits that did him no good. Even worse, it gave him few targets beyond what his groups had found.
The next turn he forgot that two of his kingdoms, the GI and WI were natural enemies and a gold trade between the two failed. He'd had the GI hire two HPs, but without the trade, the divinations failed for lack of funds. He also had some bad luck in that 3 RA wizards died in one turn - two while taking a lowly DE village and one in a tussle with the 2BL.
Now I made a couple of mistakes, too - on turn 1, my stupid GN priestess tried to divine all the towns in Alamaze when she forgot to put the region in column C. Even worse, she died doing it! But that only set me back in one region, not 5 as was the case with Will.
I wouldn't have said that game was hopeless for Will, but there's no question I would have many more pop centers under my control at the end of turn 3 and the gold advantage would have been considerable. Unlike in 15 player games, if you get behind early, it's almost impossible to catch up. Given the brevity of the game, Will has volunteered to cover my setup costs which was very nice and sporting of him. And now we can both concentrate on the tournament!

Kudos to Dupont for the victory!
A thoroughly chastised Will
