Steel Diplomacy Rex Chivalry

I agree with HH's points.

When I think of the big three military kingdoms i think capital destroyer. With the big three in the game you need to look over your shoulder for some mega army to show up. They also all basically share regions with others and if they choose not to play nice and get along it almost always makes for a bad game for there early target. in the TR and RD case that target could be the GN who is already sharing a region with someone. When the big three are not in the game I like seeing who decides to become a military. The biggest change likely comes to the WA. The WA no longer has big brother looking over him scaring other away from one of the richest region. The WA become a high risk high reward type play. if you can control the advances through diplomacy you can really have an excellent starting position.

Oh and why do you hate the mages? Smile

I agree with that analysis.  I love though hearing, or seeing first hand, new strategies, such as a recent one in a game in its first 10 turns where the Red Dragon took over the Eastern Steppes, which I hadn't seen as an early move.

Of course I don't hate the mages, or any of "my children".  I just take some heat when a change occurs that seems on first impression to disfavor a style, strategy, or kingdom.  There was an uproar when the Diplomacy spell changed to become sensible instead of the most broken part of the design.  There was a fear from the players who favored the wizard kingdoms that all was lost because that one spell changed.  Alamaze is not that fragile.  The mage kingdoms are a bit more complicated to play, and in diplomacy games, that is an important aspect of play, but it can be for the Trolls as well.  I hope Alamaze always evolves, and always challenges players to develop new strategies.

The RD that took region 6 early on was me in game 173 but I didn't really plan anything special in that game. After threatening the DW to leave my pc's alone in 3 (which I guess was legal with game 173's special rules of not making NAP's with others but threats were still allowed), I moved into the Steppes of which the Dark Elf left wide open since he wanted to tangle with the Ranger.

Since the DA player was kind of inexperienced, I didn't want to take him out and instead gave him an ultimatum where if I had control of the Steppes, I would allow him to survive longer in the game. Again, not that I'm a mean player issuing threats like this but this game had special rules of not arranging NAP's so I had to be mean Smile

The DA player got mad and said he would rather see the Steppes burn than allow the RD gain control of it so the battles began but I did give him a chance to survive. It's turn 8 now and I'm at the DA capital again (in Synisvania this time) and the DA must be down to just a couple of pc's by now so he's paid the price of not "cooperating" with the RD.

Back to the general topic of this thread, yes, after playing the RD, the "bigs" do have a large advantage compared to others early in the game so I can see why Ry Vor wanted to skip them for this one. But there are some disadvantages in playing the bigs too because I'm about to pay 60,000 food AND gold for my RD groups every turn and that takes a chunk out of developing other things. After turn 10, I may be paying close to 90,000 food and gold for my troops with my planned recruitment so the RD is kind of a one-dimensional kingdom if you haven't played it before.

But it's been fun so far. Love flying over water and the freedom of far-ranged movement...

Quick question...I've found Steel, Diplomacy and Rex...what does the designator Chivalry mean for a game?
Cheers.

In this game it means players who have never made the top three in a game get 25k extra gold to start.  In other games it allows first pick at kingdoms.
