New Anonymous Game
#21
Hang on here folks!

There is no software bug as Rick implies. Draft B style is a pure random draft which the Game Queue did for this game. There was no mention on this thread to have this game to allow only one kingdom per region (and not to include the dispersed).

What I could do is add a new draft option called 'Draft-By-Region' for this type of game but I'll need some time. I'll try to get it done today (Friday) or over the weekend. When I'm done, I'll give the ok on this forum thread then Netstrider can recreate this game while choosing the new draft option (draft-by-region).

To cancel the former game, I'll go ahead and concede a random winner so just ignore the upcoming email that says the game is over.

Avantar, you didn't sign up in time and are not registered for the game though you may sign up for the upcoming one after I enhance the Game Queue to draft-by-region. It's first come first serve...

Mike, thanks for helping us figure out how to restart. I really don't mind the random draft by kingdom, kind of good actually. How hard is to make the starting positions one kingdom per region. So everyone could draft whatever kingdom they wanted, but non-distributed kingdoms would still have their capital (at least) start in a non-shared region. First iteration might end up with the Amazons starting in R10, but still better than sharing R4 with the SO Smile

I don't know if people remember but I brought that option up back in 2nd Cycle days when I was initially porting the original Alamaze code to Java to eliminate the manual process of creating/running games by Cipher.

Back then, people really disliked the idea of randomizing kingdoms and regions together. It was even mentioned that the original game was specifically designed for a kingdom-to-region assignment and randomizing all of that would be bad for the game. So this option was never implemented but we could have had that variation something like 3 years ago.

However, I can't make that change for The Choosing (3rd Cycle) because the turn 0 seed tables in the database are not designed for that type of game creation. I mentioned this previously on the forum (perhaps Maelstrom thread) that if every kingdom had their initial turn 0 pc's limited to a single region (where their capital is located) then it wouldn't be much of a problem at all to offer this option. But how 3rd Cycle is currently designed with multiple pc's existing in different regions, there will be problems of trying to fit certain kingdom combinations on the map when a particular region is filled with pc ownership (when we also include the number of mandatory human/neutral controlled pc's).

So that option of random kingdom per region will have to wait until the future...

So....what are we saying? If you're in this game, should you proceed with the setups sent?

UM ended that game and is working on making a draft by region possible.

seems two options should be made by region with no dispersed or standard choosing with dispersed available.   Many player chosing a 10 player game like to start in a region with no other players capitals.

I just want to say that I appreciate all the work that UM is doing for us.

No offense on the word "bugs" intended.  This is brand new stuff and I am sometimes amazed at the advances Mike gets done.  I consider him a full partner and he gets to do his own stuff with Alamaze.  We do want games setup the way players intend, so this game is being restarted.

For those following The Maelstrom threads, we are looking at having the option on that map for any kingdom starting in any of the 12 regions, so we went from 1 fixed setup in 2nd Cycle to maybe 2000 possibilities in The Choosing, to probably more than 100,000 in Maelstrom.  There is still a lot to do to make that happen and make sense.  Again, some regions are smaller in Maelstrom and will have fewer PC's, so easier to control, while larger ones will be wealthy.  My kind of ulterior motive is to discourage in that way the limiting idea of "game long NAP".  I've lost a couple players because of that philosophy, but it to me too severely limits the possibilities in a game.  A player tries to get game long naps with all neighbors and then attacks the one he didn't get the concession from and attacks that player, possibly with allies that agreed to his nap and enjoys impunity from his other neighbors.

Anything the results in more diplomacy would be good!

Note that diplomacy doesn't just mean treaties but also calling for war and other such intrigues.
