what does this mean (obviously my wizard is dead), but what spell did they cast. There was no battle, but another group was sitting on mine. Also how do you protect yourself against it

I believe slay leader/wizard only requires the casting group have troops. Not that you fight. So a patrol can not cast it but a brigade+ can. So dispel or protect.

A battle is not required for the Kill Leader/Wizard spell; you only need to be in the same area.

can you do it patrol to patrol, patrol to army and army to patrol?

Troops are required to cast the spell. You can target a patrol, however.

It could be cast from a patrol if another wizard summons phantoms first, satisfying the "must-have-troops" requirement.

funny, i like the game, but i think wizards ramp up to fast and are by far the best commodity in the game.

They are 100% the best thing to have. They may be a bit too cheap to raise at the moment.
