Strongwill, When the game ended one of my groups had 15 different brigade types, and I was allowed to recruit. The rule seems to be very unclear.
David
The rule is simple. 15 slots, every pop center type recruit, companion from wilds, and magic summon take a single slot. Now every one of those takes a slot for veteran, elite, regular, green, all take a slot for any of the recruited types. And if one would have been promoted but no slot; no promotion. So if you have westmen and we have a green a regular a veteran and elite; we just used 4 slots. Simple.
So as I posted remove the slot requirement for the experience of the troop type and it wouldn’t screw you on a promotion of a troop type after attack..

First, I agree — it's annoying. The issue is it's a code change, so it can't be implemented at this time.

today's question is about the brigade limits allowed in groups. I understand about the limits on many brigade types. I used the combine groups order to combine two groups totaling about 50 brigades I checked to make sure I would not be exceeding the limits on companions and summonsed types. When I got the turn results, I was surprised to find out that 10-15 total brigades just disappeared. The explanation was that I had exceeded the total number of "Brigade Types". I can't find information on this anywhere in the rules (very big rule book, it must be there, but I don't see it). A couple turns later, after a big battle I read that several brigades earned advancement but were unable to receive this advancement because again, I had exceeded the total number of brigade types.
Can someone explain what has happened and where I can find this rule? Playing Eleamentalist if that has any bearing on the situation. Thanks in advance.

David,
I have never seen someone lose brigades, but I have seen them not advance. If this happens again, let me know and I can correct it.

There is a hard limit in the coding for 15 slots in a group, per UM, so i am not sure how you would fix it unless you return some excess brigade types to another group. This is a limit that should be looked at.

This is a limit that should be looked at. I don't believe they actually level up VB, they simply stay the same prior to the advancement. However, the overall troop numbers should not be lost due to the lack of a transition. Sometimes it may feel this way if you've lost troops in the fight, but I could be wrong. In the end, you may not level them up, but you shouldn't lose them.

My understanding is there are two different things here. Some did not level due to slot restriction limit, no loss of troops. But in combining groups, too many slots used and troops were lost.

I've definitely lost troops due to leveling up after winning a battle.

My experience shows that Vball is correct.
When combining groups, the order entry website actually lists what will be lost regarding leaders, wizards, and/or troops, if there wasn't enough room. So, that shouldn't be a surprise for players for the most part.
For combat, when brigade experience is about to be advanced, the available slots are checked to include the new brigade/experience combo. If not, the lower experienced brigade isn't removed from the group however.
I remember a forum post by UM that elite is checked first to be included in the group, so if all the slots are filled, only the lower-level experience types may be missed. Which is good...

My turn said this to me today: "Does not have an available slot for Wildlings Elite so unable to advance Wildlings Veteran from combat."
It's too hard to find things in old turns, but I had a battle when I was playing with a bunch of summoned monsters and regular troops fell off the bottom.
