WARLORDS 29 ends T34

What a great Warlords game!

I was truly fortunate to be able to conclude this game in control of 6 regions with the DW + GI + WI.

The contest started with the RD / TR / UN team fighting for control of regions 4, 5, and 7.   The RD coalition forced conflict with both my team and the EL / GN / DE right from the start.  The BL / DA / RA ended up without an enemy.

The situation only stabilized for me once the WI had a P5 casting demonic visions in regions 2, 3, and 5 every turn.  I had DW and WI defending Amberland while the GI invaded Torvale.  I controlled regions 2 and 3 while defending in 5 and attacking in 4.  The EL coalition controlled regions 1 and 8 while defending in 7.  The RD coalition eventually dropped.  The GI took control of Torvale after being evicted from Amberland.

The BL coalition quickly added control of Runnimede to its control of Eastern Steppes, Synisvania and Southern Sands.  The Steppes were heavily contested by the DW, though the DW eventually lost that conflict.  Arcania was heavily contested by the DE, though the DE eventually lost that conflict.  The BL coalition was surging into the lead!

On four consecutive turns the BL issued victory checks. The checks all failed because the BL coalition alternated losing control of Amberland or Arcania for those four turns.  By then all 6 WI wizards were P7s (had 8 wizards but lost 2 of them to the new Unusual Encounter game changes).  After having lost two WI wizards and some DW wizards at the Unusual Encounter, the Gem of the Planes was finally (at great cost!!!!!) possessed by the WI and given to the DW.  The mobility of GI groups, plus teleporting DW groups, and teleporting WI groups was impressive.

The DW took control of Avalon, but lost his final wizard there.  Thus, the DW Army Group was forever stranded (until the BL came and destroyed them before capturing Avalon for that coalition); the three DW Warlords sailed away as a patrol and started recruting new troops to eventually assault Gundibar and end the contest.  The GI controlled Oakendale, Torvale, and Amberland.  WI controlled Northern Mists.  The DW controlled the Talking Mountains and the Eastern Steppes.

It was interesting for me in that all three of my kingdoms were forced to simultaneously defend Amberland against the RD and, later, against the BL.  The BL came close to winning because the EL (who had controlled Oakendale the entire contest) launched a surprise attack against the GI in Torvalewhile the BL coalition appeared close to victory.  This forced me to fight both players when I had been exclusively focusing upon the BL team.

The EL coalition starting fighting the next battle he anticipated before the BL coalition was ever properly prevented from winning!

The EL coalition and I both defended against and eventually counter attacked the RD coalition (without ever coordinating or assisting each other in any fashion).  Then after the RD coalition dropped we both defended against and eventually counter attacked the BL coalition (without ever coordinating or assisting each other in any fashion).  I think had the EL waited to attack me until the BL coalition was properly dealt with I would probably still have won but it would have taken even longer than 34 turns [maybe even being resolved by status points on turn 40] because I was completely out of position to defend against the EL.  When I responded with a blitz into Oakendale it siphoned off enough defensive pressure from Amberland and Eastern Steppes that the BL coalition was able to build up steam and forge ahead towards apparent victory.  Fortunately, for me at least, the BL coalition was only able to control five and 49/100th regions on any single turn.

This turned out to be quite an adventure and I am fortunate to have survived to the end in position to claim victory!

Thanks for the awesome contest guys!  I would love to hear the perspectives of the other players in this contest.

That was a great write up. I am surprised your Dwarf wizard didn't attack Avalon with Guarded Attack.

I will see about getting the Valhalla report this weekend.

I agree - nice story write-up.  We so rarely hear much about Warlords or Titan games.
