Congrats to JF on another excellent win. And look at Thudargh and Imperial Tark and Ruingurth pulling down some rank.

I had a lot of fun! This was the first time I have ever played the UN, so I wanted to try out a lot of different actions ... my apologies to the WA who took the brunt of my experimentation Smile !
Thanks to the RD, GI, AN and DE for mostly leaving me alone when they ran across me! Congrats to the BL - JF - and the other podium winners!

I started this game declaring the GI an Ally and trying to take Avalon without contesting the rest of the region. The GI did not want to play and so after a number of turns the GI had sieged Avalon and I had killed every leader and wizard he had except for a adept. I either cursed or slept his king until he managed to get a ward. My Capitol was on water by now and I had 12 fleets, he won the region and Avalon but had dropped as I guess he realized it had become a pyrrhic victory. About this time the UN who had on of the sea towns in Amberland started to flex his agents. I had the plow of the prophet at my capitol and after a few failed attempts he kidnapped my low level agent and stole the plow. Well his capitol was on the water and I would sail over and take him out but first I would move with a invisible group killing a P4, 2 other wizards and multiple leaders. He managed to kill my king through a ward the same turn I sacked his castle and captured his king. The game ended about this time, sigh. eventually I will get into a game as a magic using kingdom and people will leave me alone for a few turns. I was unable to help out against the BL even though I knew he was close. Congrats to the winners.

I learned something ... never engage a developed magic kingdom as the UN without protecting your wizards!!! It was difficult to get my agents unslept when the WA had killed all but one of my wizards!

BL

I took this game over around turn 9 from Morgan Kane he of course left the game in great shape, owning regions 9 and 10. This was very similar to the last BL game I had played except the RA did not drop that game so I was forced to toy with him the whole game. The BL not being able to land on water squares is huge when it comes to trying to fully remove players.

Anyways,
Looking over the landscape. There was no SO DW or TR so the east was not very contested. Looking at the ending document cloud was playing the RA and stopped T3 when he left the all his games.
T9ish
The DE and DA both had just moved into R9 at the same time the BL was taking the region and I was taking over the game. I quickly declared both enemy and was prepared for battle. Both moved away the next turn. I secured the remaining neutral PCs grabbed a palintir a patrol was on in R3 to complete my requirements for ESO.
T10
Got ESO and selected a couple barons a Marshal and influence. Was not sure at the time both DE and DA had left R9 and needed some now political power. The marshal was to help get stone of all minds from R8 and then planned to move to NN and recruit some Pheonix brigades for my groups.
T11 - T17 The build up
at this point having 2 full regions production no clear enemies. I decided to take some time and build up for a push on my last two regions. I wanted to beable to take them within 3 turns.
During this time I only saw 1 kingdom make any advance on me. the little WA moved in to take one village in R9. I quickly slept his emmy and moved my own emmies in to make sure the WA knew he was not welcome here. did not see him again.
My marshal died getting Stone of all minds so no PH brigades for me. I moved all my groups to a rally point and began raising my wisards, then groups to a fighting force. also I had hired 9 agents and gave them standing orders to recon key DE PCs. I watched as the DE at first was moving some emmies within range of some of my PC then he began raising his wizards. I already had my wizards at 4 p6 1p5 and was working on getting a total of 40 brigades mixed BL/WY. origonally I was going to move in and kill all the DE wizards but he had started getting some p6 wizards himself. also I wanted to build up some more but I saw the DE starting to scout a few of my PCs in R9. I knew if I waited even a turn or two longer I would likely be getting attacked my self. the DE had two armies ready to go. I split my groups into 4 groups of 3 BL 7WY each with assorted leaders none above general.
T18-22 march for victory
my plan was to move 4 army size groups on to 4 towns invisible. then take and lauch emmies into R8. I would then take R5 mostly using emmies in a would be friendly region the turn I attacked since the GI had declared me ally long ago and never took it away.
The first part went well I believe I caught the DE completely by suprise as I took 4 towns killed one wizard and moved one army to his capital and the other 3 groups would combine troops at UM where the DE had both his armies. the next turn took out more than 50% of his troops left both groups with low moral and took the city. moved to finish the DE off in R8. The DE responded by moving in some forces and emmies to R9. I watched R9 carefully at what the DE was able to take if he could make me loose control. I did just enough to make sure that did not happen. after fully securing R8 I marched into R5 of course the GI who was in control dropped lowering my reaction level so I would not be able to take the Region in one turn. funny that the GI drop actually delayed me from winning by a turn. I knew I needed to finish this off quickly as when I moved into R5 I saw UN DA WA PCs mixed in with all the now human controlled ones. I took Avalon with no issues but when trying to move to join up with another group I got blocked by a storm at sea, Nice move I am guessing of the WA to keep my dragons trapped one turn. when I finished the game off I was attacking what I thought was a very risky battle. at less than 1.5:1 ratio for my group vs the PC at Evanon, I attack and used my p6 and p5 to cast battle spells. I was shocked to see only around 17% casualties, those attack spells really help compared to ye old times.

Great game to all that finished. I could tell I was likley to loose my capital next turn to the DE if we had continued.

I have to admit I have absolutely no idea how I took 3rd place in this game! This was only my 2nd game of traditional Alamaze (but about my 5th with Primevals and Magic games included).

I took the Red Dragons, because let's face it, as new player, who doesn't want a crack at the beasts of the north which turned out to be a mistake. As a new player, the Red Dragons are so radically different from the other (non-dispersed) kingdoms that it was very difficult for me to play them. I did luck out and not have to contend with the Dwarves so I was able to take my region fairly quickly. The winter was harsh and I never did find that damn portal in R3! I have to thank my lucky stars that the DA never came after me because I don't think I would have been able to fend them off while I was still learning how to play this monstrosity spread out over the map.

I tried to take a bunch of PCs in Runnimede and then bring my group home (the long way), but because this was an Anon game, the UN and I took the longest time sorting things out (we kept taking back one anothers PCs). Finally, I think he figured out that I just wanted a southern food supply and I was able to leave with enough PCs intact (and our hostilities ceased).

Once I had gotten my groups altogether in R3 and picked up the Elf as an ally, I decided to go after the WI. This would consume me for the rest of the game. I would definitely give the WI player a nod for Iron-Willed honors because the Elf and I beat on him for a long, long time but just could not finish him off and he did not drop/quit. Having the Anti-Magic Orb was a huge bonus in fighting the WI; found it purely by lucky when moving out of the region into R5 mountains to regroup from all the regional magic the WI had been hitting my groups with.

In the end with the WI holed up on water PCs where I could not get him, I wanted to grab a 2nd region before the next status summary was going out so I grabbed a few Elf PCs (sorry ally) in R2 in addition to the WI ones I could reach and it was just enough to flip the region right as the game ended (better lucky than good!). Prior to that I had been in the bottom half of the status ranking for the whole game so I have no idea how I rocketed to third in the end.

<Sigh> I will miss those chivalry bonuses and preferential picks of being a non-podium player but it feels pretty damn good to have bloodied myself enough to achieve podium status and doing it while riding a beast of kingdom that was very, very hard to manage. Now on to the hunt for that elusive Gold!
