#539 - Full On Steel
#1
Would anyone in game #539 oppose changing this game's turn frequency from Tues-Fri to be Ready enabled with a 3 or 4 day turn limit?

The reason why I ask is that this game is the only one that Ry Vor and myself are both playing and I need to know if there will be any issues with a Ready enabled multiplayer Steel game. Doing so would help me since I can't verify certain things like dropped/standby players or other considerations with the current two-player Duel environment.

So post any agreements or disagreements of converting this game to become a Ready enabled version.

I'm fine with that and while I could live with a 3 day, a 4 day limit might be safer the first time.

I can confirm the drop function still works fine and even lets you hit ready with no orders entered.  In my dual game we called the game but I needed two turns to finish him off to claim the win so he only hit ready with no turn input.  Then I forgot to issue my victory on the second turn and or the third I got the victory check and he got dropped in the same turn.

Ok thanks for the feedback.

I also need to test server load conditions for our games (e.g., multiple games being processed at the same time, players pressing the Ready button in the same hour, and other similar matters) that I can't test by myself. I've tried to simulate some conditions but I just can't do it all by myself.

So I actually would like to have two multiplayer games ready enabled: Game #539 and 2016 Championship Game.

That should place a minor load on the server so I can examine statistics and performance issues before the majority of games become the new standard. There's just not enough of players signing up for the free Duel games to test server load conditions so I need to convert a couple of games to help identify any issues.

Believe it or not, it may seem trivial but I also need to test for different timezones as well. Not the software that runs on the server but for the order entry website which customizes the due date according to your local timezone. The reason why is that JavaScript (that the website uses) doesn't have a standard conversion method for different timezones so I'm using a custom way of converting the date to your local timezone. The official due date for the turn is set in CST (since that's the server's timezone due to Rick residing in Texas I guess) but that value is converted through a nonstandard way to your local timezone by the web page. So little things like that would have to be verified that I can't do by myself (I'm in EST btw). So I would like to convert a current Steel game whether it's 539 or another and then phase in a second game like the 2016 Championship to be ready enabled within a few days afterwards. Hopefully that load on the system will be enough to consist of different timezones and multiple players...

Love it. No objections from me for champ game. If you list due time by time zone, please identify time zone as I travel a LOT. I am not often sure of my time zone ?.

This change is to ensure things on the server support the Ready Button.  There is not an expectation for this in progress game that all players will indicate ready before the deadline, but we'd hope some players do, maybe all players at least once.  But we aren't going to "get on" a player that just lets the game process at the normal deadline, or slightly modified deadline to 3.5 days.

If you don't want to see this change in this game, just say so - no problem.
