Note that diplomacy doesn't just mean treaties but also calling for war and other such intrigues.
Way back when we considered making royal marriages a thing, and kind of like a treaty with a mutual protection act and mutual declaration of war.
My earlier point on this thread is say you start in a small region, where a couple other kingdoms will still have a PC, so you might generate half the economy of a big region. Do you really want to have NAP's with everyone? Do they want to have NAP's with you? You might look juicy for region #2 on their agenda. You might need a little expansion. If you have a big region, you might sweat a bit about controlling it and then holding it. Will you be able to get Tight Control (80%) and those benefits? How much do you need to concede to those flies on your borders?
Just the new map should be a lot of fun. Then the new rules, the economic changes with all the PC Improvements, the couple political changes like Rulership separate from Influence and Enamoring and Denigrating being public knowledge, the covert changes that could really change that aspect, the adjustment to spell lists and power limits, a few new traits, other stuff like a couple new kingdoms. Should really provide a reset. A fresh beginning.
