Wow. I was working on my lawn and missed all the smack talk. Now I am depressed. But my lawn and garden sure look pretty.

I had the thought today. There are a lot of old rivalries and whatnot and because of the choosing on the boards, an anonymous game is sort of pointless.

But what if you had a game that was anonymous and the regions were chosen randomly. You could set it up like this. Each player gets a random region to start and a random kingdom, but the kingdoms for each region are ones that fit with those regions. i.e if you get Zamora you won't get the Cimmerians or the Lizardmen... etc...

It was just a thought. It would be a truly anonymous game.

There have been plenty of anonymous games. What happens is that somebody who is not playing runs the draft and messages each player when it is their turn and tells them what is left to pick from. It does take longer, but it used to be the norm - 'anonymous' as opposed to 'silent'. If would be more work with this double draft, but I wouldn't object. I prefer having no idea who is playing whom.

Sorry for the delay, grilling for my 9YO daughter and 5 of her friends. I also have been struggling between The Crown Islands and Darkover but settled on Crown Islands, not sure why. Have to get back to the burgers, the children call. Crown Islands for me.

I don't think drafts that take days to complete are good for Alamaze. Somehow there has to be a way that it gets done in no more than a couple hours. I really hate expecting most players to hang around waiting to pick because they don't want to hold others up (as well as anxious to make their pick), but if one player is unavailable, we have 11 other somewhat irritated players. A draft like this starts at noon, a player is still waiting to pick at dinner time Saturday? Maybe they had plans and now they look bad for being out.

I think 10 minutes is plenty of time when the draft starts, ala the NFL. Yes, if everyone took 10 minutes it would still take four hours, but we aren't making trades, etc., and I assume players have thought about the possibilities before it is their turn to draft. So most selections would be made almost instantly like in fantasy football unless "your guy" was taken right in front of you, then you go to your backup. Maybe when we fill the 12 spots with draft position, the draft starts 6pm the next day. Then you either attend the draft live on the forum, you have submitted a list to a friend or support, or failing that, your pick is made for you at random, or you slide down until you make yourself available to make the pick. Probably the last rather than random pick. You just keep sliding down until you pick if you haven't submitted a list or enjoined a surrogate.

Could you give the computer a first 3rd and second choice region/kingdom choice? You put it in as soon as you sign up and the computer stores it. when the spots are filled the computer randomizes the order and picks from your list. You could even do something like. If the region is this I want to play that sort of thing.

I am just spitballing. I am not sure of the mechanics of it. Particularly for new players. new players don't know the players or regions. So they just want to play.
