Was this the game I had to drop? Ash did good, I didn’t leave him in a very good spot. Looks as the DE/DW fought it to the end ..

I can do a very quick and dirty recap of the AN position.
Thanks to everyone who played and congratulations to Draugh and Ace who finished 2 and 3rd.
This was my first time playing it and I was surprised to see what an economic power house it could become. I picked Triumvia, a capital region. Lucky for me my hidden capital was in the sea. I took v steel, extra capt., bazaar, temple, agent from 2-4, and influence for customization. I knew I had a couple of foreknowledge items so the steel and capt. would be handy.
I went after the plow early on and tried to make a early peace with the neighbors. I had a town in region 1 and village in Zanthia. DU wanted my town for control so I swapped it for a village and promise of a couple of bounty spells later.
I built up for many turns, using the councils frequently for lessor angles on the capital, city, and another coastal town. Also improving food in the capital where the plow was. with a couple of bounty spells from Du and later a bunch of my own the economy grew quickly and I could sell tons of food for income. I chose another council for e.s.o. and could have used another wizard instead. I only had 6 wizards and more than enough money to raise them.
I decided to expand at about turn 20. DE had been fighting newbie DW since very early in the game. DE had about 1/2 of Zanthia as well as his starting area. I hit Krynn on turn 21, landing and combining 2 groups on the hidden sea capital. Pols were at numerous other pc and I had the region friendly with the councils. The capital fell easily but DE wisely domed another town that I was attacking with an army. My forces marched on the city which had become the new capital. I dispelled 2 domes but DE managed a third and bought himself another turn.
After that it was a quick conquest of Krynn and with DE now holding more that 1/2 of Zanthia it made sense to follow up and I ended up with control of that two and little DW lived with 1 town and a village or two to fight on.
By now the turn is about 26 and looking around I am just needing 1 region to get a win. With a bunch of stuff in Zanthia I can relocate my capital to the major city and have an easy move to Sword Coast. AT, with help from CI, has taken on and eliminated a very strong BL. CI took Mythgar and AT took Untamed and seems to have most of his strength still in region 12.
The city in Stormcoast was strong, over 100k but I could combine over 150k. So I went invis to a village with a division, the following turn moved 5 pols disguised and ported my army group to the city. I went all out on t 29 and did 3 dispell domes on the minor city as I had to take it. I never did find the hidden AT capital but only covered a small area.
Sure enough, on the last turn AT moved a bunch of pols back and he did manage to sleep and capture a baron who I could not disguise. I had more pols in resuierv, several princes, a count, and more barons but I was sure glad I put in and met the victory claim as I think the door was going to slam shut.
The economics was amazing to me, my highest point finish ever - maybe a record? I don't know.
At the end on winter turns with my starting area in the north my capital was producing 250k food and the position total was 429. After winter it would have been over 1.5 million food. Gold was about 280 k in winter. I had 6 legendary castles, 2 great castles, 2 regular castles, and 5 fortress and 4 ports.
I have to say AN rocks as a position if you have time to develop it.

This was the game you had to drop. I took over the CI for you. You had built it up very well. I went after Mythgar and the BL since he had taken a 2nd region and I believed he was targeting either myself or the AT for a 3rd region. It turns out both the AT, and myself invaded him within a turn or two of each other. I took control of Mythgar and the AT and I left each other's PC's alone. I fought one of the BL Army groups and the AT fought the other one. The only major PC I didn't take was the city in Mythgar. The AT had taken it but then the AT moved on to the Untamed lands it seems and the BL took back the city. I moved back in to take the City and then have the entire region. I intended to move into Pellinor and make that my 3rd region and with an Army Group with a value of about 150,000 I intended to go after Stormgate. I figured I need 3 turns to do it all and have a chance for victory.
Well.................I invaded Pellinor to find the Druid, the Pirates, the AN, and who knows who else all went after it. That damn Druid was rolling in Gold and took Stormgate and built a legendary castle putting it out of reach for me. He also spent 460K in gold for a HC seat!
I decided to regroup and go after the AN as that was a target I considered but back off of. That was my mistake. I had emmis ready to invade Krynn or Zanthia. I moved them all to go after Pellinor and the quick win I thought. Then I had to move them all back and begin marching on Zanthia. The turn I entered Zanthia was the end of the game.
Nice win by the AN, and The CI was well built up and fun to play. Nice agents, finished at lvl 15 and 16. Nice military with 3-4 warlords, was able to get the staff of disdain and this turn would have gotten the gem as well. It was fun. I just wish it was under better circumstances.
Welcome back to the game.
Ashgar the Bloodthirsty.
My blood, your blood, what difference does it make!
Time will tell.................

I will not comment on tactics used as I made my thoughts plain in game.
I will comment on the DE. Very, very strong in this game and could easily dominate if played correctly. I do have 1 suggestion though. Currently, the DE received Bounty before Plague. Given the nature of the kingdom, this seems odd. I would see them getting plague early. Now don't get me wrong, Bounty is, in general, a much stronger spell but I just think it would make more sense to maybe swap them. It might help tone down the DE's power as well.

Where was the IL capital? I had 75% of Nyvaria scouted and was doing 6 squares a turn with combo groups and L10+ recons.
Congrats Wookie and Draugr. I'm starting to realize how tough defenses can be in Maelstrom. There were a couple cities I looked at moving on with a group of over 150K but the defenses were over 200k. Sheesh.
Couple of suggestions I thought of to balance Maelstrom during play:
-AM should get bounty within their assured power. They get the 20% bonus to villages in the plains so clearly it's in their nature to get bounty earlier than 7. I only had it because I had the ring of spells.
-The locate character spell being gone is really a huge change in terms of game tactics. Used to be that getting a emmy or agent captured was bad but also potentially good since you could then locate capital. Now you have no recourse at all. How about bringing back the spell but just making at level 6+ for all kingdoms. Then people can't exploit early in the game guessing king names and whatnot.

Mine was at IX. I found the UN capitol the turn before he dropped and killed 3 of his wizards and found the AM on the last turn.
