I suppose I'll start, after all if you need someone to talk about themselves, I'm probably overqualified.  This game was my second attempt at attaining 15 warlords, its been a desire of mine to pack my groups completely full with epic heroes.  Did a little bit better this time than last, I scored 11 warlords.  Pagan was certainly not the format to attempt this, it slowed my progress dramatically, even though I found both the Oracle of the old gods and the Alter of the holy ancients.  You'd think I'd be scoping out artifacts left and right but NO... you can't USE both the Alter and the Oracle at the same time... and I tried, more than once, because I couldn't believe it.. That was frustrating.

Not to mention Dupont constantly trying to kill me for doing nothing more than taking artifacts and villages.  To accomplish my "Epic Hero" goal I always play the RA for all the military skills (stalwart, military tradition, heroic, healing and adventurers).  Throw in the value and toughness of their kingdom brigades and the low cost of magic development and the Rangers are one formidable kingdom that we should see a lot more of on the podium.

ANYWAY... one of my early artifacts was the wandering Marshal, that was a nice boon, but tragedy struck during some of my artifact hunts, and kept striking... I lost a major general on a "Fine" encounter, a commander on an "excellent" encounter and most tragically on turn 32 I lost a grand marshal on a "Quest" encounter.  My strategy included artifact hunting of course, but also having all 5 groups out taking villages, giving 15 possible heroes raises each turn.  When a group attained 3 warlords, I retired the group to protect them, but it turns out I didn't lose a single leader in battle, only against artifacts.

Also, I had a lot of trouble promoting higher level leaders against villages, I was under the impression all battles were considered equal for leader promotion, it certainly did not seem that way, but then it could have just been my bad luck.

One strategy I had planned on using was to find the adept twins and investigate the encounter with 2 wizards in the group, repeatedly, with multiple groups.  Turn after turn, each time netting around 11k gold and 3 guaranteed leader raises.  But after finding the adept twins in or near sword coast in two previous games, I was unable to located them in this game.  I had the opportunity to try this strategy with the HA in sword coast, but my goal in that game was to have 12 wizards (accomplished) and I didn't want to risk someone else coming along and grabbing the twins while I played hide and seek with them.

Anyway, congratulations to the real combatants, I only podiumed due to the status points contributed by my leaders, wizards and artifacts.  After the Nomad took my region on about turn 15, I don't think I controlled a region for the rest of the game.

I suppose that I should now make my victory speech. This is my first win in Maelstrom, and it didn't come easy.

The DW quit just as I was about to strike, so it was little problem picking up the pieces of that kingdom. A while later, the NO came into Zanthia and started taking PCs that were under my control. Several battles ensued, and I emerged on top in all of them.

I had decided not to attack the RA, as I thought that he would like to also strike at the NO. However, he didn't have any part in this and so war ensued. Because of my economic superiority, I was able to do something Painted taught me and built great castles in many settlements making them impregnable to the RA forces.

This was my first attempt as a seafaring kingdom, and it didn't disappoint.

This game was the first time I did a pagan game, so I used many agents to scout the regions. I ended up with a key to the staff, but I couldn't locate it without a high priestess, so it just game me some points.

It was an honor to have excellent adversaries in the NO and the RA kingdoms. They fought hard and didn't give up in the end--even when they had been beaten. So kudos for me and my opponents.

Economics rules all. Nicely done. I love AT because they get industrial and a hidden capital. If you get lucky enough for that to be on the water, auto-set those increase resources orders and wait for the magic around turn 10.

Nicely done, Windstar! Impressive win!

I started attacking into Zanthia the same time you did Windstar, but for a completely different reason.  I saw the DW drop, meanwhile the Nomad, being Devout, and having me hostile in Zamora and Sword coast (not to mention Mythgar) was decimating my group moral, so in an effort to find new artifact hunting grounds, and villages in areas were I could rebuild moral, I moved to zanthia, pellinor and untamed.  I actually fought a RD group and an IL group over there (smacked them), and took as many PCs from the TY, RD and IL as I did from you and the NO.  It had nothing to do with retaliation.  I attacked villages (and one bigger group attacking towns) wherever it was most likely I could avoid a moral hit or accidently running into a bigger group, which I did not do even a single time.  When you took Sword from the NO, it made it so that I could hunt there again without moral hits.  But the three AT prince captures did contribute nicely to my status Wink
