Speaking of crowns, "Humans Bow Down"  is a pretty good read from James Patterson.  Just saying...

I’ll check it out. One for you- “Dust” sci fi podcast has a 14 part short story called “Chrysalis”. It’s great, and it’s free! Each part is about 15 minutes, so not a super long story. Thoughtful though.
