As of right this moment in time, that entire discussion thread dedicated to the subject at hand contains the following:
DuPont - 630 total words posted across a span of just 3 postings.
Zar@shand - 60 total words posted across a span of just 1 posting.
Eregnon - 44 total words posted across a span of just 1 posting.
unclemike - 423 total words posted across a span of just 2 postings.
I used the word count feature located at
https://wordcount.com/ to conduct the counting of the words, for any who might want to double-check my count.
So, in that discussion thread, a grand total of only four individuals even participated in that discussion. There may be some additional discussion that has taken place in either other discussion threads, or in private messages between players, the latter of which I have no access to. Honestly, the main thread under discussion has not exactly been a hotbed of discussion, much less analysis and cross-comparison of data and points of particular interest or persuasiveness.
When, exactly, was the Death Knight power in question actually implemented and made available for players to play with or against? How many months of play across how many games that involved the Death knights being actively played and using this power are we actually talking about? In other words, how
extensive are the
actual history and the
actual record of play? Absent an extensive history of data and experience to call upon and to rely upon, how is it that a
definitive conclusion can be made in the matter, one way or the other?
Certainly, I can track down every last message on this subject posted in the various discussion threads in this forum, but a previous quick look for such didn't exactly reveal a whole heck of a lot of postings that pertained to the specific matter at hand - namely, the issue of whether this one particular power of the Death Knights is truly overpowered or not. If I were to go in and boil down the words actually posted in that discussion thread dedicated to this topic, in order to distill the core essence of what the respective parties to the discussion articulated on the subject at hand, there would only be a sparse handful of words left, when all was said and done. For instance, the very first sentence posted in that thread was this one:
I've complained about this before but I'm going to say it one last time.
That sentence doesn't actually yield anything conclusive about the underlying nature of the problem, itself. The underlying issue at hand deals with a particular power of a particular kingdom, and it gravitates around the core premise that this one power of this one kingdom is potentially overpowered.
How many times has this one spell/power been cast, all total across all games of Alamaze that it has been used in? A hundred times? 50 times? 20 times? 5 times? This matters, by virtue of the fact that it is relevant to the consideration of how much data and history have accumulated, in order to provide a
broad enough sample of data whereby to draw
definitive and persuasive conclusions from.
There is the paucity of what the one player, DuPont , says, and there is the meager retorts of the programmer, unclemike. None of that, however, is a proper and adequate substitute for what the data, itself, says about the subject under consideration.
Or is anyone on either side of the issue interested in what the data, itself, says and attests to?
Perhaps this one death knights power is overpowered. Perhaps it isn't. How does anyone draw conclusions absent a review of the data (assuming that the data points in question exist and can be accessed, in order to conduct a review and analysis of them)?
Tempers and feelings, including gut feelings or feelings traceable to experience of play, are not actual data. Not that they should be summarily dismissed out of hand, but those kinds of abstract intangibles do not always tell the tale worth being told.
DuPont didn't walk in off the street, just yesterday - and neither did unclemike.
And neither did I.
I have no dog in this fight that isn't even a fight, but from what I have been able to discern, thus far, precious little in the way of back and forth discussion or insightful debate have even taken place on this subject, heretofore. If your position is the accurate one, then by all means, persuade me. Persuade one another.
The Alamaze player community may not be a huge one, at present, but it's certainly larger than just four or five individuals. What do the rest of the Alamaze players think, where this particular issue is concerned?
