Game 5705
#21
(09-10-2023, 06:57 PM)Wookie Panz Wrote: Max with your wizard kingdom you should certainly be able to use all your orders.
Move 4 groups, cover at least 16 squares for free.  Use 6 wizards and maybe make some gold.
Train some agents to level 4 and have them explore 4 squares a turn.
If you have extra orders reorganize troops and cut your overhead.
Even is Darkover, the largest region, you should have it covered pretty well in 4 turns.  The city should be yours on turn 3 with ease.

It all looks good on paper, and it all sounds good.

The reality is that I can't undo past turns, and I've looked at different ways to do things. This next turn, for example, I'm not gonna pay any of my military groups.

Here is my Turn #5 results for Food and Gold production:

And here's Turn #2's Food and Gold production.

Winter likely plays a role. A lost town plays a role. Other decisions, taken before the town was taken, likely played a role. I can't go back in time and undo various turn orders and decisions. Instead, I deal with the actual reality on the ground.

I've looked for population centers, with a combination of both groups and agents. By this point in time, I am quite familiar with order numbers #725 - Land Movement (PC Search) and #976 - Search for Popcenters. Sometimes, when you do such searches, you find population centers, and other times, you don't. The current reality has manifested itself, regardless of what theories and what someone else may have done differently lead one to believe. I would have to go back through all of my prior turns, to try and figure out every detail that led up to the current situation.

Realistically, none of what happened before matters. I am where I am with the kingdom, regardless of choices, decisions, and luck. In another game, I'm giving away large sums of food and gold. In this game, things have taken a different path.

New players are unlikely to make decisions in the same ways that experienced players make them. Theories and what-could-have-beens are fine and dandy, but when all is said and done, players are faced with actual realities of what their respective situations are, right now. The timing of a food trade during a previous turn, in conjunction with losing that one town in question, likely was exacerbated by the onset of winter, which resulted in lower production.

Looks like I flubbed it, again, this turn. It's comedic, by this point in time. I sought to rebel the city, again - but I had done that on the previous turn. Wasted turn. Wasted gold. Wasted character orders.

Learn, learn, learn!

Such is life in the player lane, though.

Dan,

Turn #3 - Lost a village to the Free Traders.
Kuna                  The people of Kuna (Area AG) have rebelled against our rulership!

Turn #4 - Lost a town to the Alchemist.
Glassy Sheen          The people of Glassy Sheen (Area CU) have rebelled against our rulership!

The economic situation for the Warlock in this game is due to variety of factors, including timing. It isn't really a kingdom issue, per se.

This is all with like 40+ turns of experience under my belt, scattered across five different games.

Now, imagine a newcomers with zero turns of experience to their name.

Game 5663 just had two players to drop, both new players, as far as I know. At least one of them may have just given up on the game of Alamaze that they signed up for, thinking that it wasn't ever going to start. It shouldn't be assumed that newcomers are always going to communicate. Thus, gold shortages can sink a newcomer's ship rather swiftly,a nd a lack of communication can exacerbate that.

Max you can go ahead and take my village in Darkover.  Do it with your troops for free.  Maybe even get a promotion.

Alchemist - all
