Sorry folks, not sure where or how to put this in.  I wanted to start a conversation on the Regions in the game.  What each one does and which Kingdom you would play in each.  So I an going to start a bunch of Threads and hope someone knows how to put them where they fit best.

So here are the 13 Regions, broken down slightly differently than the game description:

Regions Advantages


Regional Character. The Maelstrom map is unique from other maps in that every region
provides one or more advantages for the kingdom who starts the game in that specific
region. Regions also determine which kind of troops may be recruited from the area. Starting fleets for kingdoms are also determined by initial region with the exception that Pirates gets a minimum of 1 fleet in every sea along with 13 quality (after Seafaring trait is added) and BL, RD gets 0 fleets. The
benefits are as follows:


[1] The Crown Islands
      1. All popcenters gain +20% gold above normal.
      2. Gain +1 fleet in Endless Sea and Sorrows, gain +1 naval quality.
      3. Gains Elite Fleet for Sea of the Forgotten.
      4. Foreknowledge of Quest encounter.
      5. Popcenter recruits: Northmen, Vikings
      6. Gets 4 fleets in Sea of The Forgotten, gain +1 naval quality.


[2] Darkover
      1. +1.5 Influence
      2. Extra Baron
      3. Kingdom-named brigade in 1st group as Veterans
      4. Kingdom's capital upgraded with +3,000 census, defense, food, gold
      5. Popcenter recruits: Northmen, Paladins/Knights of Styx, Vikings
      6. Gain 2 fleets in The Tempest, 1 fleet in Waves of Azure


[3] The Diamond Coast
      1. All popcenters gain +20% gold above normal.
      2. Gain +1 fleets in Forgotten and Sorrows, gain +1 naval quality.
      3. +20,000 gold in treasury
      4. Popcenters recruits: Northmen, Nyvarians, Vikings
      5. Gains 4 fleets in The Endless Sea, gain +1 naval quality.


[4] Krynn
      1. 2 Companion brigades of highest defense rating in 1st group as Regular
      2. Champion Stallions in 1st and 2nd group
      3. Whowie Totem in 1st group.
      4. 2 Red Elk Mounts at capital
      5. Popcenters Recruits: Paladins/Knights of Styx, Westmen
      6. Gains 2 fleets in Sea of The Forgotten, 2 fleets in The Sorrows


[5] Triumvia
      1. +1.5 Influence
      2. Extra Baron
      3. Kingdom-named brigade in 1st group as Veteran
      4. Capital upgraded with +3000 census, defense, food, gold
      5. Popcenters recruits: Northmen, Paladins/Knights of Styx, Westmen
      6. Gains 3 fleets in The Tempest


[6] Zanthia
  1. Companion brigade of highest defense rating in 1st group as Veteran
  2. +20,000 gold in treasury
  3. Group morale losses due to Suspicious/Hostile are +2 point loss
  4. Retreat losses for groups whose kingdom is not in control of the region are x2 due to perilous terrain.
  5. All mountain popcenters in Zanthia gain +2,000 gold then extra 25% gold/defense.
  6. Popcenters recruit: Mythians, Westmen
  7. Gains 0 fleets

[7] Nyvaria
      1. Extra Baron
      2. Kingdom-named brigade in 1st group as Veterans
      3. Kingdom’s capital upgraded with +3,000 census, defense, food, gold
      4. Popcenters recruit: Nyvarians, Paladins/Knights of Styx
      5. Gains 1 fleet in The Endless Sea, 2 fleets in Waves of Azure


[8] The Sword Coast
      1. All popcenters in region gains +20% gold above normal
      2. Gains +1 fleets in Sea of Forgotten and Endless Sea, gain +1 naval quality
      3. Kingdom-named brigade in 1st group as Veterans
      4. Foreknowledge of Excellent encounter
      5. Popcenters recruit: Mythians, Westmen, Zamorans
      6. Gains 4 fleets in The Sorrows, gain +1 naval quality


[9] Pellinor
      1. +1 Influence
      2. Brigade of Paladins in 1st group as Veteran (Knights of Styx for Evil kingdoms, Wyvern for BL,RD)
      3. General in 1st group
      4. Popcenters recruit: Nyvarians, Paladins/Knights of Styx, Zamorans
      5. Gains 3 fleets in Waves of Azure


[10] Zamora
      1. All popcenters in region gains +20% gold above normal
      2. Gains +1 fleets in Sea of Forgotten and Endless Sea, gain +1 naval quality
      3. gains Elite ship (random name) for The Sorrows
      4. Foreknowledge of Superior encounter
      5. Popcenters recruit: Mythians, Zamorans
      6. Gains 4 fleets in The Sorrows


[11] Mythgar
      1. All popcenters in Mythgar gain 1,500 defense
      2. Enigma encounter for a Pwr-2 Wizard
      3. Kingdom-named brigade in 1st group as Regular
      4. Companion brigade of highest defense rating in 1st group as Veteran
      5. kingdom's capital defense increased +5,000
      6. Group with available slot receives pwr-2 wizard
      7. Popcenters recruit: Mythians, Zamorans
      8. Gains 0 fleets


[12] The Untamed Lands
      1. Two companion brigades of highest defense rating in 1st group as Regular
      2. gains Black Owl Totem
      3. additional Adept in 1st group
      4. Companion brigades recruited in The Untamed Lands hired at 50% normal cost (both food/gold).
      5. Popcenters recruit: Mythians, Nyvarians, Zamorans
      6. Gains 0 fleets


[13] Stormgate
      1. Stormgate cannot be chosen as starting region
      2. fleets built in Stormgate can be in either The Tempest or Waves of Azure
      3. Popcenters recruit: Stormgate Guard

The ranking, from best to worst, is Superior +[SS], Superior[S], Excellent[E], Very Good[VG], Good[G], Above Average[AA], Average[A], Below Average[BA], Poor[P], Very Poor[VP], Not a Factor[N]
