Dropping Games
#1
I just dropped Game #5856 where I was playing the Gnomes / previous Turn the Death Knights seized control of a couple more Towns that caused the Gnomes to lose control of The Crown Islands and for T-13 I had only entered 4 of 20 Orders before Real Life encroached on my filling out the rest of the Orders before the Turn ran, so I dropped the Gnomes [not that interested in playing the Gnomes again in the near future, if at all].

Gnomes are apparently not my 'Cup of Tea' and I had previously dropped a game where I was playing the Black Dragons [I just did not like playing the Black Dragons, although I did have some 'Fun Turns' early in the game] / I also dropped the Death Knights that I had inherited from another Player, but I only played them for several Turns to learn about playing Alamaze as I also did not like playing the Death Knights Kingdom all that much either

My Main Purpose for this particular Thread is just to get some replies, especially from the 'Alamaze Veterans', in regards to Why any of you have chosen to drop games either recently or earlier in your Alamaze Careers?

Not a vet here, but I am of the opinion that I would never drop games (unless you're eliminated), the only exception so far that Newbie game that I joined with the messed up start. Even if you're reduced to working out of your sanctuary you're a factor in the game (even if it's an annoyance and just to meteor strike your old opponents pop centers) and you force players to consume orders and forces to contain you, giving other kingdoms the opportunity to make their own moves (and then contend with you as well). In a full diplomacy game you can even make some deals to get back to a spot where you can get a region back and make a major difference. Much more difficult in an Anon game where everyone is potentially a foe, but then you're also always haunting the person who had the audacity to take your region and not eliminate you!

I haven't played a kingdom that I really hate playing yet though, so don't have that perspective.

I wonder why you didn't enjoy the GN, BL nor the DK, Hammer. Those are three kingdoms with widely different styles.

Not a fan of BL or GN, black is just a weaker RD, GN needs better companions imo.

I like DK I can usually be a factor in games w them. Imo

GN needs better companions?

Chameleons CH 3,000 3,000 5 Recruit in wild (no pop center) in Forest, Marsh, Desert terrain and 1 Veteran brigade
Goblins GO 2,000 2,000 20 Recruit in wild (no pop center) in Plains, Forest, Mountains, Marsh terrain and 1 brigades
Ogres OG 6,000 12,000 5 Recruit in wild (no pop center) in Plains, Forest, Mountains terrain and 3 brigades
Trolls TR 10,000 12,000 5 Recruit in wild (no pop center) in Forest, Mountains terrain and 1 Veteran brigade
War Machines WM 4,000 10,000 5 Recruit in wild (no pop center) in Forest terrain and 3 brigades
Warg Riders WR 4,000 4,000 5 Recruit in wild (no pop center) in Plains terrain and 3 brigades

Those seem pretty good to me. No elite gates either.

@Hammer It's just a game we play for fun. If you're not having fun then drop the game.

I've dropped most of my games because 1) the 1 week turn around was not enjoyable 2) I royally screwed up 3) I was getting my butt kicked (see #2) and there's no joy for me in scrambling for your life.

I enjoy building, which I can do in other games and to a certain extent in HW. Alamaze is a chaotic free for all where people take whatever you build and you can't defend anything. I'm trying to adjust my mindset to embrace the chaos, but I may not be able to in the end.

I like to build too, region selection, kingdom selection and knowing the player style on your borders can dictate so much game play. In the start of games wizard kingdoms are very weak, yet there is always about two or more at the final game ending.

People complain about others building up pops and such for status points, but then complain not enough fighting?

One problem w the new players and the games they are in; your playing in 10 player games that means two regions have no occupier, if they are bordered or where a military kingdom can quickly grab two regions, then the balance of game is corrupted from the start.

You can defend, you just have to figure out how.  There are fortifications to build, spells and pc improvements to increase the defense.  The trick to doing it is the same as real life. You have to create the defenses before being attacked.

I just dropped one game as I just did not have the time to fill out the orders. This is not really a game you can skip a turn and do a recovery. One of the reasons I do not intend to play a game with a short turn-around. I just do not guarantee I have time in a 24 or 48 hour period to fill out the orders.

I never drop a game. I don't see why, it doesn't benifit the game as a whole. I tend to go after players who drop games often.
