Wall of Flame Spell
#1
The spell description notes that it will prevent attacks from all but the most determined attackers (TAC 3).  A wall of flame will only prevent combat (and no damage to either side) if neither issued a TAC 3 attack order.

However, I’ve learned that isn’t correct.  My group defended on TAC 2 (stand and defend) and the opposing force attacked on TAC 2 (standard battle plan).  I could also note that I had used power word stun and all 3 of the opposing force’s Warlords were stunned.

Question - opposing forces will still battle thru a wall of flame even on TAC 2 without any leaders at the helm?  I guess that I could see that if the attacking force’s Warlords didn’t have all the leaders stunned, but maybe this is all based upon the sequence of battle.

Thoughts?

Thank you.

I also ran into this on two separate occasions and was surprised by the result.

Regardless of the spell description, combat still occurs for long and short-range missile phases, then in the magic phase, the wall is checked. It is possible that a group is forced to retreat (or is destroyed) in the two missile phases before the wall effect is checked.

That is my understanding of the spell from two separate battles.

If i am correct in assuming your attacker was the giant, then if he issued stomp, that is a Tac8 attack on the setup, which converts to Tac3 afterwards. The battle report may need tweeked in the software.

I thought about that as well but then see “if a wall of fire prevents combat, then both groups will be considered to battle if they were not issued an attack order at TAC 3 (and that’s 3, not a higher TAC from one of the newer maneuvers”.

Had the combat not happen because I issued a TAC 5 for example.  Now I don’t use special maneuvers if I could be facing a wall of flame - I always put in a TAC 3.

Thanks for the comment.
