Right now, this is simply to create a copy of the current "original" server. We needed to update a lot of things that simply didn't exist 10+ years ago when Mike did all his work, things like secure connections, consolidating websites/servers/game names/forums/email services, etc.
So the goal isn't to add any new functionality or fix old broken things unless it's a quick fix. Instead, we're focused on creating a more modern, updated version of the current server and reducing my overall monthly costs. Right now it costs almost $200 a month because it's hosted on an old IBM physical server.
I will also be using the "new" server to implement all the changes that Olorin and I have been working on to better balance the kingdoms. This includes everything from improved spell distribution to more concise and balanced troop types, etc. Because Alamaze is coded so that everything runs from one singular database, making a change in one place impacts every game. This will allow people to try the new version without breaking the old one.
Now that said, I am also working on the Kickstarter for the new Alamaze. Rather than run through all of that in the forums, if people are interested I would be happy to show our progress. It has slowed down recently as TalonSix has been spending time making the "new" server stable, and then we hit the new system harder!
