Multiple Personas
#1
When we brought Alamaze back, here now exactly 3 months ago, we introduced to Alamaze the concept of persona, which Fall of Rome players have been familiar with since it started in 2004, but old Alamaze players were not.

We are seeing some "passionate rivalries" emerge already. In Fall of Rome, we allow players at higher service levels to have more than one persona. I wonder if that might be a good idea for Alamaze as well. So, player Rick can have personas X and Y and maybe Z, and when he signs up for a game, he chooses which he wants to use. The advantage is that there is some anonymity, which may serve well for the non diplomacy game, and also allows players to enter a game without instant enemies forged under their other persona. It also allows a player to preserve an impeccable reputation with the main persona while getting a little mischievous with another. It can also hide some style of play "tells" that experienced players pick up from personas they have encountered.

The downside is your Valhalla points are divided among your personas, as earned.

Would you, at whatever service level, likely use more than your original persona and enjoy the potential of doing so, if there was either a service level requirement or a one-time charge for adding a persona?

I don't mind the concept, but I doubt I would be interested in using the service myself. I don't care about status points outside a particular game, but I want to be able to acknowledge any feats I earn.

In FoR, the other players eventually figured out most of my alternate personas. I never could make myself act evil with one persona and good with the other.

I'm also pretty bad at keeping the personas straight. I, and others, have occassionally sent messages from one persona but signed the message with another. It's rather embarrassing.

Please do not take any of my comments as a personal insult or as a criticism of the game 'Alamaze', which I very much enjoy. Rather, I hope that my personal insight and unique perspective may, in some way, help make 'Alamaze' more fun, a more successful financial venture, or simply more sustainable as a long-term project. Anyone who reads this post should feel completely free to ignore, disregard, scorn, implement, improve, dispute, or otherwise comment upon its content.

Are Valhalla points just a ranking system or can we actually do something with them, like get a free setup?

Yes and yes. Please add this functionality to keep the game fresh Smile

1. I'm fine with it though I don't think I'd use it.
2. I don't think the anonymity would last long. Even the head of the CIA got his hidden persona discovered from context clues.

I don't think I'd use multiple personas.

In FoR, I have many personas available to me. Some of them were used in the Campaigns for different cohorts. Perhaps not many people even playing FoR remember the good times playing Campaigns any longer when we had very customized setups. I also used different personas in FoR II because of certain rivalries. There may be some forgotten personas that people don't remember any longer - until the number of new game starts dwindled to a trickle where it no longer was a relevant.

In any case, call me slow - but I can really only process two Almz games at one time. So, I am not sure that multiple personas in Almz matters to me as much.
