New picking order for Titan games
#1
Had an idea for the picking order in the variable Titan game (as opposed to classic, where sides are already assigned).

At present, the picking order is

Player 1 gets first pick.
Player 2 gets second and third pick,
then they alternate.

This format definitely favors player 2. I think a more equal process would be something like

Player 1 get first pick
Player 2 gets second and third
Player 1 gets fourth
Player 2 gets fifth
Player 1 gets sixth
Player 2 gets seventh
Player 1 gets eight
Player 2 gets ninth
Player 1 gets TENTH AND ELEVNTH
Player 2 gets twelve

What do you think?

I agree that this is a more fair way to pick. Having just done a pick with you, I did feel that whatever advantage the 1st player got by picking first is more than offset by the 2nd player then being able to set the tone in the following picks. This would seem to be a good solution.

In Titan matches, from an admin perspective, all we really need to know is the two competitors have agreed on their six kingdom each rosters.

2nd player has advantage IMO- I wrote something similar to the OP awhile ago.

Another idea:
Player 1 gets first pick
Each player alternates 2 picks
Player 1 gets last single pick

Player 1 gets picks 1, 4, 5, 8, 9, 12
Player 2 gets picks 2, 3, 6, 7, 10, 11

I like this idea better than Will's suggestion of player 1 getting 10th and 11th pick because I believe there is great value in having the 12th pick.

First pick is likely to always be GI, because GI is a very strong kingdom in a team game (not surrounded by enemies, but has all the built-in advantages to offset that central position in normal games).

Last pick enables the first player (likely already having GI position) to select from four remaining kingdoms and essentially determine the final geographic shape of the battlefield. This is actually a large advantage in the 12th pick not present in the first 11 picks. Of course, just my opinion.

Thus, the advantage of GI and final pick offsets the more apparent advantage of having picks 2 and 3. Again, simply my opinion.

Cipher's way is actually how I had envisioned it as well.

Shall those of us, "Titanites" agree that Cipher's picking order be the standard option for future games?

I say. "Aye!"

I say we leave it with Ry Vor's method of "hows about yous twos just lets us know after yous picked." But if we HAVE to do something standardized, I say aye.
