If I kill an enemy agent that is holding a ring of protection or a dagger, what happens to that artifact?

If you kill a king with a ring of protection it goes to his PC. I assume the same outcome would occur with the agent but I have not seen it happen yet.

I attempted an assassination on a Demon Prince with Demon Bane. I failed, part of the agent team brought the dagger back to the teams base of operations PC.
