To clarify, this is an invitational game to determine a Champion for 2013.
The invitations are based upon the persona that has scored highest for each kingdom in 2013 measured first by podium position, and then status points. It's not a normal signup game where players pick positions. As I update (slowly) Valhalla, I will have the 1st and 2nd personas by position. At this time, we have had 14 of 15 kingdoms reach the podium with the only black sheep being the Dark Elf. I have BlueFile2 listed there because he has the highest status points to have not also been on the podium.
This game will likely not count against the service level because it is an invitational. However, because of the prizes and the necessity of not having early drops, we likely will have a $25 entry fee rather than the normal $8.
I was also thinking of some special rules like not allowing allies before Turn 7 or so and then maybe only one, and restricting trading to trade with allies to minimize friendship alliances, but am also considering this is an Alamaze Classic championship, so maybe the rules should not be altered. Any opinions there?

no trades, no diplomacy, let each person stand on their own. would that be a downer for those involved??

I am excited and honored. I would not think my meager, mistake ridden game would have gone so well.
I am in, whatever rules and scenarios you want to implement.
Hileville,
Troytown,
Troyburge
All seem to have a nice ring to them.

Something like that might be alright for a town name, Mighty Hile Troy.
Whoever wins and wants to rename a city though, it should be disclosed, must come to an agreement with me, ultimately. There will be no, "Bite Me, Adam!" for a city. Just so we are clear. Now if Lord Moontree participates and wins, and wishes a name like "Moon Tree" as a city, that's about as far as I would go.

I want to rename Avalon as it's the only city name that is not original. I had always suspected Rick's imagination failed him at that point and having come up with 11 good names, just decided to stick that one in. Not coming up with any names yet or anything as that would be WAY premature (and also really asking for it!) but I think that's the one that should be renamed.

Interesting, flattering maybe. On the other hand, it might be Avalon was the first city named, inspiring as it is in inflection and myth, and the other eleven were derived in some fashion from that inspiration.
Reflecting on such nostalgia, I have to again give credit to James Paisley who did the map and gave each city its own icon, knowing the names. I especially like the Viperhead and Triesa and maybe Meridon icons in that way. BTW, I am thinking of contacting my old friend Ralf to update the classic Alamaze map....

I like the big wall map that says 1987 James Paisley in the corner. I still have a couple.
RE: the match- Are you suggesting we just don't use the 440 order or that we play the game in an anonymous-like format until turn 7?
I can see the issues with player balance but think also think a no contact start that might benefit the EL, WI, DE, DA and hurt the rest of the kingdoms.

Well, we already know who is likely to be playing the various positions, so I can't see how it would be anonymous. I think I see what the desire is, here, but I don't know how you can stop people from teaming up. The only real advantage to declaring an ally is you can use 215 to trade and not 201/202 which also generates a report.

Not anonymous. What I am looking for in a game with major prestige at stake is that everyone goes in solo and all 14 others have a chance as the situation dictates to be tactically affiliated with anyone else.
I am thinking not allowing an ally until T7 means no one is getting free resources and no one has (ostensibly) pre-allied. Players can still exchange info and plot, but no one could overtly support another until T7, and only a single ally (instead of a wolf pack) would be allowed.
Trading for non-allies might be limited to no more than 3-1 (market rates). So a king could trade 25k food for 10k gold, but not 200k gold for 10k food.
I'm just trying to make it as fair a contest as possible with as few rule changes as possible as well.
