So, the DW gets a special order, #599 that lets him build 3000 defense for 13,000. Used to be a savings of 5000 gold. Now it would actually cost 1,000 gold more since defense has been changed to the same cost as gold and food improvements. Has this been updated for the hapless DW kingdom or is it just one more reason they suck?

Oh, I was being tounge-in-cheek with the 'suck' comment. I'm very happy with all the kingdoms and enjoy playing each and every one.
I like the idea but I think everyone knows that raising defenses is over rated in general. Past turn 10 there are usually 3+ army groups floating around that are 80K plus in value and even a pop center with 50K bonus falls immediately. If someone gets their pop center past 50K there should be some kind of defensive bonus that prevents it from falling so easily, or at least make the attacker pay a bigger price. A troll/Red Dragon/Giant army group can usually take something like this out and only lose a brigade or two. One of the most needed improvements is what you have allowed in KOA. Stationing leaders and troops (and wizards) at pop centers. We all lose extra captains and generals, but they are much more valuable being stationed at a pop center and giving their bonus there.

Ah, but if your 50k plus pop center is your capital, it's that much harder to take. Plus, it makes taking it a major undertaking and with a lot of loss of troops to do so. I don't think raising defenses is over-rated at all. Even if it means that the RD with the 80k group has to siege rather than assault your pop center, this is much better as it takes longer and the odds of you losing people is much lower.

I've always wondered, can the DW issue 599 and 600(D) on the same pop center the same turn? That would be a huge advantage. In 5 turns, you could have added 30k defense to your capital.
