Please do not take any of my comments as a personal insult or as a criticism of the game 'Alamaze', which I very much enjoy. Rather, I hope that my personal insight and unique perspective may, in some way, help make 'Alamaze' more fun, a more successful financial venture, or simply more sustainable as a long-term project. Anyone who reads this post should feel completely free to ignore, disregard, scorn, implement, improve, dispute, or otherwise comment upon its content.

I wanted to add a few comments on this thread because I think this Primeval format was a lot of fun.

This was a custom anonymous primeval game with the Kingdoms Darkelven, Dwarven, Ranger, Elven, and Gnome.

We played with 5 extra orders and 5 groups.

Although the Ranger Kingdom won the contest with 4 regions both the Dwarf and Gnome had 3 regions under control at earlier points in the game.

The Darkelven had the advantage against the Ranger early in the game taking Synisvania on turn 6 and holding both regions 6 and 9 versus the Ranger in region 10 after that.

I think the Dwarf created problems for the Darkelf after that allowing the Ranger to get back into the game and eventually capture regions 6, 8, 9 and 10 for the victory.

I liked the fact that we had 5 balanced kingdoms in play. But I think substituting the Warlock for the Darkelven may result in a better starting game board for the future.

I would encourage players to try a game like this.

I think a fun variant would also be WI, WA, SO, AN ,DE. If that version goes to turn 24 I think the victory should go to the kingdom with the most artifacts.

I am curious about why only 3 kingdoms were on the HC.

players held skeletons until turn 24 because it looked like the champion would be decided on points.

Hawk,
That sir, is incorrect. I bribed both the DA and DW prisoner with my agents on turn 23, both learning a skeleton. I released the skeletons strategically on the last turn (turn 24) though in the end I still finished 4th. Nonetheless, I enjoyed taking one last stab...;-)

This is a lie. DA cannot be bribed the way that a smelly DW can. It was torture, I assure you. Of course, that is the proper way. Smile

I would like to add that I did cause trouble with the DA, but it was very mutual. He invaded 5 just after I took it. I then went hard after 6 to make him defend it, only to find the Ranger there. I still don't understand why the DA didn't stay in 9 early on. I also spent almost the whole game defending myself in region 2 from the Elf only to see the Gnome make a late push there too.

As the RA I actually tried to take region 9 on turn 3. I had probably 40% of the region along with the City. However, I got my power 1 wizard killed by chance on turn 2 when I attacked a DA group with the 1RA. This group was sitting at a friendly neutral town with a defense of 10710 with no wizard to cast 171.

Additionally the 2RA had a power 1 wizard but it landed on a neutral town with a defense of 15115 and my PC value was too small at 8560.

I figured I would just take region 9 over the next couple of turns but then the DA emmy invaders showed up just as I moved the RA emmies out of my controlled PC's into the neutral ones in region 10.

I spent the next several turns waging a military war in R9 until I luckily won it back by force. I was able use my full resources from R10 while the DA was facing winter in R6 so we were on fairly even footing financially.

(DA) I was content fighting the RA but then thought since the DW and GN each had three regions I would prevent a DW victory and hope the RA would do the same against the GN. But the RA then invaded 6. I guess he made the right decision. Maybe in the future I will continue to pummel my opponent without any regard as to who else might win. I will say that the DA was my last choice when kingdoms were being assigned. It was an excellent anonymous contest. All my opponents are high on my list of players I like to game with.
