138 - First Exploratory Steel Rex
#1
This was a full diplomacy game and the first with the Exploratory Rex style.

That didn't stop Vball Michael from winning via the Rex on Turn 28, after he was down to one region on Turn 26.

Let's hear how it went down.

It went down like this: his allies decided to throw the game to him by giving up their home regions so be could win. This is all to typical of how some players manage to win. Shame on you Ranger and Witchlord players, please enlighten the rest of us on how the Demon Princes conquered your regions without spilling a drop of blood?

That would be a shame if that is indeed how it happened. I enjoyed the communications I had with the WI and found him to be a stand-up guy. Unfortunately, there is not much of a mechanism to prevent this from happening (if indeed this is what occurred) other than calling out those involved and some vigorous finger-waving.

In other matters, did anyone get ending status points? I did not and though I'm certain I am not in the top half of the board, I'd still be curious to see how it shook out.

Hmm. Now that I look at it, it doesn't look like endgame bonus points are included maybe?

I wasn't in this game obviously, but I'll chime in anyway. Smile

1. I do remember reading something, (all deleted now) about this player and a group of three. Ok that's all I'm saying.

2. I have also seen this before in games that last a while, eventually an email flies around, asking if you're close to winning, because people want to to end the game. If someone is close and well liked, than a couple of people "help" them win. I find this confusing, as we all seemed to want longer games, but when the games go long, than people want them over? I don't get it.

I have seen this happen a couple of times.

This is why I only like the Anonymous format, and this thread just reminded me of that fact.
Podium player returning to the conflict!

I beat DuPont. My day is complete. And EL in 5th place without any of the "new stuff" isn't too shabby!

(DE) You have got to be kidding. I was fighting DA, RD, RA, SO, EL at different points in the game and took some hits from other players along the way. I had no game-long alliances in this game, though I did share info with some players (and no, Usurper, not the allies of some previous game). When I got a second region (Eastern), I got attacked by several folks (no complaints, that is what should happen), so I took it again, and lost it again but still had just under 50%, but in the meantime, gathered pieces of Northern and Synisvania, then took all 3 in quick succession with 6 princes, friendly reactions, several other emissaries and 4 invisible groups. On the final turn, many of my holdings now have visitors, so this was my one shot at declaring. Witchlord, Sorcerer, Red Dragon, Ranger, and even Gnome were positioned to take things. These kinds of shots across the bow are part of the reason I have only joined anonymous games lately. Yes, I generally (not always) play this game to win. The anonymous game 141 was awesome and immensely fun, and I actually thought about taking the fourth region and not declaring just so I could keep playing it. But that then seemed weird, so I declared. Likewise, here, I was becoming a target, and the Gnome was doing well and so were some others, so I went for the stealth win as quickly as I could (still turn 28).

Well, I do have it directly from one of the players that you asked him if "it was ok" after you "accidentally" took control of his region....

Not sure what that proves. Done with posting. Will stick to anon or Warlords.
I remember the Elf in this game agreeing to leave Eastern and I would quit killing his emissaries. I did quit killing his emissaries, but the Elf stayed and tried for another town, then explained that he was "slowly" leaving Eastern. Not sure what that proves either, but "it was ok."

I'm game for a warlords. Obviously nothing starting while Ry Vor is off on family duty, but once he's back... Pretty sure we can find two more!
