A group of my mages has moved through the astral plane to emerge in the Talking mountains. We are on a quest to retrieve a powerful artifact lost by our ancestors. With a little luck they will be successful and return home to our libraries as soon as possible. We mean you no harm.

Sorry, landed it on it on turn 2. If it makes you feel any better I just divined the short name for the Axe of Farin....

What's a warlock mentor to do if he is not snagging up artifacts.

So after 10 turns, I think I'm qualified to ask, why is the BL kingdom in this type of game? Two full army groups of BL running around by turn 9. Able to recruit from ANY mt. square, fully trained to that of veterans (Hell I think a brigade of wing beast has a higher value the named BL brigades) and able to move the same turn trained and all you need is a adept in a patrol within 7 squares of a group and each turn refortify it with 3 brigades or six or nine
Given the BL is a gimme for two regions with basically unlimited resources and doesn't have to worry about winter for 10 plus turns. Actually has two buffer regions between him and the DW, and can reach the Talking mts in what 2-3 turns, in what would take the DW 5-6 turns to get to him ( with basically only his starting troops since he can't 565) and the BL has ability to mass recruit pretty much faster then all the other kingdoms combined..... I ask again why is a 565 kingdom in this type of game?

The initial thought was to keep the players geographically separated so the particularly nasty initial turn attacks cannot happen as well as to eliminate resource management as a concern. The goal is to enable new players to try out various orders and learn how the different elements of Alamaze interact together. It is very difficult in a regular contest to control enough resources to have three or more P7s casting all those powerful spells and have groups of 150,000 strength and above roaming the board. With only five players it is likely that every player will have more than one full region of production to plan his actions with. This is not always the case when 15 players are vying for those same resources. Adding the mentor to this type contest enables new players to ask as many questions as possible to one of the more experienced Alamaze players and, thereby, also blunt the advantage possessed by experienced players. In short, the game is a vehicle for learning Alamaze so you can determine the best manner to crush your enemies in a regular contest. I guarantee you will need to know how to oppose a skilled dragon player when it is those damn Red Dragons hounding you in a regular contest. For starters, put your capital in a water hex since dragons cannot use ships. Use those extra resources to have your mages cast Dome of Invulnerability so the BL cannot attack your pcs. He can only have 4 groups, while you can have 4 or more mages preventing him from attacking popcenters in the region where the mages are. He can dispel Domes. You can cast regional spells to sap the strength of his groups. He can protect his groups from these spells with his mages. ASSASSINATE the BL mages and then he cannot stop either your Dome spells or your Regional spells. The BL has the lowest retreat threshhold of all the kingdoms; build a large enough group, wait at a particularly important pc and attack his group while casting Chaos. I once killed 8 BL brigades before battle commenced by casting four Summon Death spells prior to combat. The list goes on and on and on... Good Hunting!

Yes the DW will soon have summon death.
I think someone just thought hey 4 corners and the middle, cool way to start a game. The Ranger would have been a much better choice for this type of game.
