With the new engine 720 orders reveal the ownership of any PC you pass by and even reveals if its a capital. It even reveals the PC's defense! This is a decent size change and makes it a lot easier to identify capitals in the early turns. Anyone else have an opinion on this change?

I've asked Uncle Mike to take this out for Classic. But an emissary relocating or group ending on a capital will reveal that it is a capital, but not groups moving through the area.

Makes more sense I think. I was finding capitals left and right by turn 3. That's really not so bad though, the bad part is that they were finding mine!

I don't feel strongly about this either way.
It does make sense that an army passing a town would learn who owned it, but it would also make sense for the owner of the town to learn that an army had marched right by. That could balance out the benefits.

I don't mean to be repeating myself but has anyone else noticed how big a change it is having groups report the PC's owner? Scouting goes much (!) quicker and HP 750 orders are less important, especially for the kingdoms that can really cover territory. In my Warlords game by T4 I had found 3 enemy capitals and someone had found 2 of my capitals. Turn 4.
I understand they've made the change where it will no longer tell you if the PC is a capital unless you land on it but early in the game anyone's Town you run across basically has about a 50% change to be their capital.
Not complaining in any direction just noting that this seems to be a really big change in how games will unfold.

I only just experienced this in a new game, but I love it. I won't have to waste my time moving to a particular pc unless/until I am ready for war.

I've always assumed the squares were pretty large. A fast army in medieval times could move 13 miles in a day, or nearly 400 miles in a month, which translates to about 80 miles per square (assuming five plains squares per turn). This translates to Alamaze being about 2080 miles by 2080 miles in size (about the size of a square United States), which "feels" about right to me.
If a square is 80 miles on a side, an army could easily march by a town or village or even a city without the pop center knowing it, but with the army's scouts and outriders being able to spot the tell-tale signs of civilization and discreetly check it out to determine how big it is and to whom they swear allegiance to, I believe.

Yes, Head Honcho, pretty much said as exactly as intended.
People that have "known" me since Alamaze launched know I try to associate my name as a game designer with the word verisimilitude. So within a fantasy setting, and given that suspension of disbelief, I am trying to have nothing unnecessarily jolt players into, 'Huh, what?". So we had to remove a Red Dragon brigade as having 2000 dragons upon the resurgence, for case in point.

I've said this before, but the whole game is incredibly well-designed, Rick, right down to details like this. Even the ten emissary square range is right, IMO, since 25-27 miles per day is a very reasonable pace for a few fast riders. I suppose one could argue they could move even faster, but important courtiers tend not to like being rushed...
