Curious if my food sabotage caused you any damage Dupont? What was the morale of your 1GI at?

(Troll) I was having a great time starting my assault on the Warlock in Arcania when the vicious little Gnome attacked me back at home. His attack got off to a bad start with his army destroyed itself beneath the walls of my capital. Militarily, the Gnome was done for. There was another small battle at sea, but all I saw was Gnome patrols after that.

The Gnome seemed to have a plan to use his wizard-assassins against my leaders. He had patrols hanging out at my city and my capital, waiting for me to show up to get my reinforcements. It didn't work and it didn't occur to him that my own wizards could defend against his.

The Gnome did do a good job of assassinating my HP and my agents. I lost another agent killing his Baron. Those were the only characters I lost.

I had to abandon my work in Arcania to go home and school the Gnome. I kicked him out of Torvale, collecting a nice assortment of lawn-Gnomes for my prison-zoo. I the. Moved into Runnimede, took Cradia, and them sent an army to take his island capital. I also captured his entire royal court, eventually having (I think) 10 Gnome prisoners. With only his king left, I think that is when he dropped.

I knew that I would be too late, but I landed nobles and armies at 7 Black Dragon pcs in Arcania on turn 20. I should have been there a turn earlier. Perfect timing is why Vballmichael is the best in Alamaze.

(BL) Thanks, LD, for the kind words.
Honestly, I think the biggest factor in winning or losing is whether you get attacked. LD was attacked, had to defend, slowed down his advances, and still he finished second, and was all over my region on turn 20 and ready to contest for Arcania. I was never attacked, never really had any slowdown in the regions I attacked (WA fought back in Arcania and did kill my P5 and RA fought back in Synisvania) but neither really slowed down my taking of their region nor took much back after that. Undisturbed, I had developed lots of emmies, a nice army, and 4 power 5 wizards, for a devastating invasion.
As LD pointed out, I had to slow down a bit so that I did not take my third region until turn 19, so that by the time people got really nervous, it would be too late. The other thing I did early was also key, I think. Knowing that getting attacked is really the difference between doing well and going home, I declared the Ranger (the most dangerous nearby enemy for the BL) an enemy very early and also denigrated him as soon as I had my region, all to discourage any invasion. He never declared me an enemy, so I was friendly when I moved into Synisvania around turn 17.
My SVC was to control 3 regions, have more regions than the RD, and an army stronger than 125,000. This last requirement ended up being much harder than I thought. I had to recruit like 12 times in the last 2 turns and do sieges near the end instead of battles just to get there. Black dragons and wyverns take a lot to add up Smile. I ended up with 43 brigades all in 1 group and was a little over 150,000 because I was opposite 3 Ranger groups and was not sure how much damage he might do if we fought.
Thanks all for a fun game, and congrats to LD on an excellent game to take the silver and to Drogo for bronze (and he only missed silver by about 200 points).

I had Cradia, five towns, and one village in Runnimede. I was surprised that I didn't get control.

Vball, did you ever summon a Phoenix?

No, forgot all about that Smile
Was not on my Dossier/setup.
Is it too late to submit a turn 21 and go do that?

RD
This game started out with great potential. I got the first kingdom I wanted, something with these chivalry rules just does not happen much now. I allied with DW early to avoid any conflict in R3 and rushed my groups and emmies into R5. In R7 I had a good first turns move finding two villages and a town as I moved to Amberland. I was able to grab up the villages for what I know is normally a hard winter on the RD. Right away I was fighting a political war with the GI and to some extent the WA. I took a few towns and the GI with his stronger politicle corps would slowly start to win on that front. But my military was now in region and took a couple neutral places then the WA capital. Grouped them all together and met the GI at evanon with both our forces. I had superior numbers and won the battle barely. Then the GI followed me to another town in the plains. This time I had added an additional 2 wyvern to the group and a general and the GI added nothing more. I was ready to slaughter the GI having more kingdom brigades, more total brigades, equal leaders, better attrition and moral. But it was not the case I issued an all out attack he all out defended. I got hit very hard.
This had become the first alamaze game I felt I wasted my money playing. How could I fight another kingdom that starts with a diplomatic corps and can beat me in combat when I have the better numbers and edge in most everyway, even though I am supposed to be 2nd to none. After cooling off I decided best to just quit this game rather than all of alamaze. I decided I just would not play the RD again. I am not posting any combat results as this was fixed about a month or so later when they it was discovered something about the GI values being wrong. I would guess attrition was wrong as well but that was never mentioned.
This takes nothing away from Vballs win it happened very early in the contest and likely just a bump in the road for others. just explaining why you would see a turn 8 exit by me. Also Hats off to Dupont(GI) he played an excellent game using his emmies to run around my troops and still gain the region while I was starting to begin my military operation.

DW
This was my second Alamaze game, and started shortly after my first, so was still in newbie mode for most of the game.   Wasn't sure what to expect with an anonymous game, but after seeing that RD named me ally right away I quickly figured out that naming someone Ally or Enemy was really the only way to somewhat communicate your intentions.   So I left the one RD PC in my region alone and quickly worked to secure the region and find some artifacts.  The Axe of Farin was close by so grabbed that early, and also found a Stone of All Minds, which was quite helpful to my DW wizards.   Around turn 6 or 7 (can't quite remember) I named DA ally the same turn he named me enemy.  Was a little worried about that but next turn he named me ally.   I spent way too much time from there on out being conservative, building up my position, and reconning.   Everyone was leaving me alone and no one ever moved on my region or any of my PCs.   I finally moved on GI.   Turn 18 started laying siege the GI capital, started assassinating his agents, and moving emmies into place.  Turn 19 GI army moved to break the siege.  Turn 20 I defeated the GI army group, completed my siege of his capital, and boom...game over.   Was a fun game and a good learning experience....next time need to be more aggressive.   Finishing 4th was satisfying though.

Sounds like you were doing just fine.  not many a dwarf can claim victory over a full GI army.  With your first game not completed yet, taking 4th in your first completed game is very good actually.  And I love seeing a DW had the Stone of All Minds.

I was DA, GI attacked me I guess right when the RD dropped. I killed a lot of his stuff, I had several agents maxed out. I hit him with Cold/Darkness every turn and sent my agents after his groups supply tons of times. I'm curious if that had any impact for future reference. I would have gone into Region 9 to contest the BL but a turn too late as well.
