Magic with Feudal Chivalry
#11
My understanding is order will be determined and could be posted then positions would be drafted in secret most likely by LD sending emails when your turn is due. As the draft goes the teams would know who they are getting but the other players/teams would not know which kingdom are drafted unless they try to draft that kingdom. When done each team would only know the kingdom on there team and not who the other team are made of.

Open draft was the implication I took from Ry Vor's post. And natural enemies are almost never removed in a 12 or 15 player game, from my understanding.

If there is an open draft and draft order is known then semi anonymous is not possible. I reread the post and only saw draft order referenced. I think the semi anonymous aspect of the magic games is likely the number one draw to the format.
I leave it to Ry Vor to clarify

With the other signup progressing slowly, I could be convinced to join a team of newer players, so long as they agree to be quite active via e-mail. Smile No worries at all if that doesn't materialize.

It definitely needs to be a closed draft since it is only a 12 player game. We don't need to know which three kingdoms were not taken.

I would be in favor of letting teammates trade kingdoms after the draft....seems no harm in that.

You will know what three Kingdoms are not taken on T0, when you look at the enemy/ally chart.

I personally kind of like this.

I also think that knowing what Kingdoms are selected will definitely be an influence on the later draft picks. It's basically a small consolation to the 11th and 12th picks that they will at least know who is absent in the game. With Chivalry being in this game (early picks, +25,000 gold), I think it's appropriate to do it openly, myself.

But that's just an opinion and I'm not even sure I'm in this game, so take it for what it's worth. Smile

Right....T0 will show that. Always two sides to every debate. My original thought was I prefer an open draft. Given that knowing the unpicked kingdoms is not an issue, I guess I would side back to that original thought...but not if it would keep people from signing up. Perhaps others can chime in that have signed up, or as new players sign up. I'm somewhat new here (my 5th game) so I certainly don't want to push my desires over others with more experience.

I did ask Ry Vor and he said it was up to us to decide.

Being able to trade kingdoms within team after the draft would restore some partial anonymity.

The problem I have with open draft is the game now becomes a full diplomacy game.  We know who will draft when and what team they are on so there is no way to disguise the teams other than to make the draft it self not open.   If it is full diplomacy then we will have NAP except now half the players can not attack each other and when you goto attack someone likely the team would look for an ally so now half the board is attacking a quarter of the board.  This is kind of the same thinking why warlords is basically never an open diplomacy game.
I do not mind knowing who is on what team or actually who they are playing but I think making a game of only 4 teams full diplomacy and not semi-anon(only talk amount your team mate) would make for a bad gaming environment.  Generally though I prefer not to know who is playing what team in an anon game though to help keep things more honest since this has always been a potential sore spot about anon games.

I not saying I would not play the game if it were open I just trying to explain why I am against an Open draft in this particular game. I think others should express there views as well and I am happy to follow the majority of those votes of players signed-up for the game

Disagree open draft automatically means diplomacy. It should just be an agreement among honorable players that the only diplomacy that can be done is within one's own team, with community self-policing.

If people want to break that, it's on their own honor and consciences.
