I agree with that analysis. I love though hearing, or seeing first hand, new strategies, such as a recent one in a game in its first 10 turns where the Red Dragon took over the Eastern Steppes, which I hadn't seen as an early move.
The RD that took region 6 early on was me in game 173 but I didn't really plan anything special in that game. After threatening the DW to leave my pc's alone in 3 (which I guess was legal with game 173's special rules of not making NAP's with others but threats were still allowed), I moved into the Steppes of which the Dark Elf left wide open since he wanted to tangle with the Ranger.
Since the DA player was kind of inexperienced, I didn't want to take him out and instead gave him an ultimatum where if I had control of the Steppes, I would allow him to survive longer in the game. Again, not that I'm a mean player issuing threats like this but this game had special rules of not arranging NAP's so I had to be mean
The DA player got mad and said he would rather see the Steppes burn than allow the RD gain control of it so the battles began but I did give him a chance to survive. It's turn 8 now and I'm at the DA capital again (in Synisvania this time) and the DA must be down to just a couple of pc's by now so he's paid the price of not "cooperating" with the RD.

The RD --> Eastern Steppes strategy is also taking place in another game I am in. I know the strategy well now, because, well, I was the DA that Uncle Mike rolled over in the game you mention!
To be clear, no one got mad. In the end, DA decided they were disinclined to submit to being bullied by overgrown lizards out of ownership of their ancestral homeland right out of the gate. It was fun and I learned a lot, though the end result was never in doubt. And thankfully, as of today, it is over as the RD victory over DA is complete!
