Please do not take any of my comments as a personal insult or as a criticism of the game 'Alamaze', which I very much enjoy. Rather, I hope that my personal insight and unique perspective may, in some way, help make 'Alamaze' more fun, a more successful financial venture, or simply more sustainable as a long-term project. Anyone who reads this post should feel completely free to ignore, disregard, scorn, implement, improve, dispute, or otherwise comment upon its content.

I wonder if Jumpingfist and Drogo would comment on how this game went: so few of our players have played Titan and it is rarely discussed in the forum.

This was my first Titan game and so there was a definite learning curve. I only had one Kingdom in the South so the early Winter really put me behind early. It also took me longer to get my unopposed regions than I had anticipated because all the cities were blocked. Couple those two financial impediments with the fact that I spent a lot of gold obtaining 4 high council seats and I didn't have the cash to do what was needed. I could rarely afford to issue 480 and struggled to feed and pay my troops which didn't allow for much recruiting or 565. I think the kingdoms we chose were pretty fair on balance and a more experienced player could have won with my team even with the early Winter handicap. JF sailed an Army of Giants to grab Avalon and that was one of the final blows.

JF has given me a rematch and we have redrafted as follows:

Drogo Team. RD BL RA WI DA AN

JF Team. GI DE EL GN TR DW

Even though I had heard that Titan games usually end in 5-7 turns (by surrender) I still need to do a better job planning for a game of that length. Agent development is a bit of a luxury as is artifact hunting and even wizard development to a point.

I'm playing in 4 Warlords games and I enjoy that format but because those games go 20+ turns (1x/week) they are very, very long games. Titan allows you to have play coordinated kingdoms and the game length is much more manageable.
-This Khal Drogo, it's said he has a hundred thousand men in his horde

Thanks for the insights. Good luck in your rematch.

The variant DuPont and I are playing (limited war through end-of-T12) is working very well, in my opinion, to allow for more development and less instakill capital bounce.

I find the exploration rules do a pretty good job of stopping all the capitals from falling at least by turn 3 or so. I do not think any capitals fell in our game. Even Avalon was not under control. He had moved an AN blocked and later a councilor. At that point it became worthwhile to kill the councilor. I used only two ships to get my army on the island, splitting my GI brigades into three groups and moving to the mountain below the city then funneled gold to recruit up ogres.

Well regardless, it stops the early-stage military hammering that makes mid-late game development irrelevant.

I'm one of those people who really enjoys the mid-late game and the more powerful wizards, armies, artifacts, etc. So it's a no-brainer for me.

Plus there's the setup fee issue. Barring something to extend the average T7 concession, I would probably give up Titan games.

Back to G225

I had GI BL RA EL DE DA
Drogo had RD TR AN GN DW WI

Wth Titans the game starts with the draft. I was able to get 6 uncontested regions to Drogos 4 though Drogo did have two floater military armies. I also had 3 of the 4 southern region, which for a Titan match likely to be over around the end of the northern winter is a big deal. In most Titan games I play very aggressively looking for capital and trying to knock out kingdom early. In this game because I had the regions already I decided to just trying and get my region as fast as possible without branching out other than to block cities in his regions. Cities were another factor in this game. My regions contained a total of 8 of 12 cities in the game. This meant I could block all his cities with only 4 emmies and it would take him 8 to do mine. It seems he could not reach my most southern cities which gave me both an income boost and allowed me to control a few regions on T3. Drogo had R5 locked down and blocking me from getting control. I started building both my GI and BL armies to move hard against two of his region once ready. We stopped the game with my 24 brigade BL group sitting on the still Human controlled meridon.

Looking forward to this next game the draft seem much more fair with each of us having 4 uncontested regions, 2 shared regions and 2 southern regions each as well.
