Recover Artifacts

Can someone provide a short summary of how I go about recovering an artifact that I know the location of?

Firstly I would recommend using Calculators By Frost Lord (3rd Cycle)
(Excel 4.84 MB),which is available as player aids on the website " http://fallofromegame.com/alamazeorders/helpguides.html "to give you an idea of what is required to succeed in the encounter.

Then move your group to the location and the following turn investigate encounter with the group and remember to use any wizards you want to by using the appropriate order for them. Reference the unusual encounters section of the rule book for details of the Wizard actions.

Ugh! A spreadsheet. The interface reminds me enough of a spreadsheet, as it is.

I'd rather never do well, than use a spreadsheet.

Bah! I never use the spreadsheet. If it is a Fine encounter (a lesser artifact), I go in with a General and maybe a small wizard. If a good artifact, then a couple of leaders plus a Power 3 wizard. If a Superior artifact, then an extra leader or wizard.

And I think that is part of the issue.. tools like this, created by 3rd parties, almost become mandatory to use if you want to be in any way competitive. Over time, players have learned too much about the behind the scenes data.
